Latin America renews the methods for medical care, it is based on what Digital Health and its technologies offer in order to improve the quality of services in hospitals, pharmacies and health centers.
The issue of medical prescriptions, to assign a certain medication with the objective of starting a good treatment, is one of the pillars considered to be strengthened in the country of Costa Rica.
According to the Ministry of Health, self-medication increases the risk of adverse effects by not being officially suggested by a specialist. For this reason, the Costa Rican Medical Association supports the strategy of digitizing medical prescriptions to keep an adequate control and surveillance of the medications distributed between pharmacies and patients.
The consideration of using the Digital Prescription determines the efforts to improve the quality of health services and reduce the access gap in the field of Digital Health, according to the president of the College of Physicians, Luis Carlos Pastor Pacheco, “what important is to consider the patient as the center of everything and direct the efforts and actions towards the protection of the users, guaranteeing the efficacy and safety of what is prescribed ”.
The initiative comes within the National Action Plans recommended by the World Health Organization, and which have the mission of guaranteeing, through public policies, the continuity of the prevention and satisfactory treatment of infectious diseases with effective medicines, safe and of quality, that are used in a responsible way and are accessible to all the people who need them.
The main factor is to reduce absenteeism in periodic visits to the offices. In addition, patients save resources by having appropriate medications available. In this way, they can be requested remotely and picked up at the designated pharmacies.
