The CENS held a working day of the HL7 in Chile

Governance, Value Offer, and Sustainability were the 3 topics that were dealt with in the HL7 work day in Chile, which will help to strengthen the implementation of interoperable health information systems.

On July 11 of this year, the National Center for Health Information Systems (CENS)organized an open work day in which public and private actors participated. In this one, topics relevant to the Chilean Chapter of HL7 (Health Level Seven), Non-Profit Standards Development Organization, dedicated to the development of health information standards were discussed, and the following topics related to the digitalization of the world were addressed of digital health:

  • Governance:the group in charge of César Galindo (deputy director of Interoperability of the CENS and academic of the University of Valparaíso) had the task of entering the review and analysis of terms of reference, and identification of candidates for the HL7 Council in Chile.
  • Value Offer:under the tutelage of Sergio Guíñez (director of Interoperability of the CENS and academic of the University of Talca) an interesting proposal for training, certification and advice on standards was developed, under which it should be counted as a reference for all systematic adaptations when using technological alternatives in the health sector.
  • Sustainability: Camilo Erazo (general manager of the CENS) was in charge of this group, whose task was to provide an estimate of operating costs, and proposed membership prices.

From the development of the day, the first lines of action could be specified for the Chilean chapter of HL7 as follows:

  • Offer the required stability and organize the robust community around it.
  • Be able to exercise greater dissemination of interoperability standards through access to official materials, courses and certifications, and thereby develop appropriate adaptations and translations of the documents, standards and materials used in Chile.
  • Coordinate national efforts and participate in the development processes of standards, to enhance the implementation of interoperable health information systems.

The objective is that the results of the exercise are reflected in the local regulations and applications of technology. Regardless of their academic preparation, all citizens attending the open call of the Government, managed to be part of the different activities offered by each initiative. In addition, to test their skills in different areas, which can affect them directly in the near future as professionals in the health sector, which, today, faces major digital changes.
