California implements digital COVID-19 vaccine record

The state of California in the United States, has implemented a COVID-19 vaccine verification system, which will display a digital version of the paper document people get when they receive their vaccination.

The State of California enabled a web portal to provide public access to electronic vaccination records. Authorities have explained that this is not a digital passport, but only a digital version that is easier to carry than the paper vaccination record.

Similarly, California authorities have explained that the electronic vaccination record is only an alternative and state residents are not required to obtain it. However, in the face of the economic reopening, it is possible that commercial establishments, workplaces or some localities will require vaccine verification.

"We’re looking for this to be rolled out to whoever wants to use them," explained Amy Tong, the the state’s chief information officer and director of the California Department of Technology.

The paper cards provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), details the location, the date where they received the vaccine, as well as the brand of vaccine. Through the web system the digitalization of this document provides the same information accompanied by a QR code to verify its validity.

"It’s an optional tool for Californians to use to be a touch more convenient, and one of many ways people can show and verify that they’ve been vaccinated," the official explained.

The vaccination record is available online at the following link: myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov
