Mexican startup offers home sampling kits for COVID-19 testing

Following the authorization of PCR tests, this startup now develops sampling kits from home for COVID-19 testing.

Lab U provides laboratory services via telehealth. It began by offering STDs testing in a comfortable way using home test kits.

Now, following the emergency situation in Mexico by COVID-19, Lab U set itself the goal of providing COVID-19 samples at home.

In this way they seek to speed up the time of results and avoid risks of contagion for patients by avoiding to take a test directly in a laboratory, as well as avoid crowding in these spaces.

"By getting PCR test certification for coronavirus, we decided to launch a sampling kit. The idea is that people can collect their own samples without having to go to a hospital or lab. This represents a time saving of 60% and the security of not exposing yourself to contagion or spreading to others," explained Eduardo Lozano, founder of Lab U.

The COVID-19 PCR Test sample kit, is of the nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal type, this includes biosecurity material, UTM-Viral a Nasopharyngeal swab, a transport tube and a self-testing guide for assisting sample.

To order a sample kit at home, the user must complete an eligibility form, as the tests are focused on people with COVID-19 symptoms or those who have been exposed to the virus or if they are part of a vulnerable population.

If eligible, the patient must proceed to pay for their kit and receive it at home. After taking the sample as indicated in the manuals, Lab U will receive them in 48 hours and the results will be consulted online by the patient. Immediate attention will be provided in case of positive results.

The emergence of new telehealth services in times of health emergency is important, especially those such as Lab U offer laboratory testing services via remote.
