For the development of this research Pau Gorostiza researcher at the Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC), who has been working on the development of light-regulated drugs for more than ten years, carried out tests on fish, adding light-sensitive molecules in a fish tank.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

To make further progress in the project, IBEC partnered with the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez de Elche University, the University of Alcal\u00e1 de Henares, the Centre d'Investigaci\u00f3 i Desenvolupament of the CSIC and the Institut de la Mucula in Barcelona.<\/p>

However, they are still far from the clinical application of this procedure as it is necessary to get the right drug, \"we are still far from being able to offer treatment to patients, the one we have tried in fish is not yet good enough for clinical use\", explains Gorostiza. However, the work plan considers various tests on larger animals such as pigs, and on human donor retinas before starting human trials. They even plan to perform the first drug tests on blind dogs once they are safe.<\/p>

La investigaci\u00f3n sobre compuestos experimentales para tratar esta enfermedad obtuvo resultados positivos en pruebas con peces. Para el desarrollo de esta investigaci\u00f3n Pau Gorostiza investigador en el Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC), quien lleva m\u00e1s de diez a\u00f1os trabajando en el desarrollo de f\u00e1rmacos regulados por luz, realiz\u00f3 pruebas en peces, al agregar mol\u00e9culas sensibles a la luz en una pecera. Para lograr un mayor avance en el proyecto el IBEC se asoci\u00f3 con la Universidad Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez de Elche, la Universidad de Alcal\u00e1 de Henares, el Centre d\u2019Investigaci\u00f3 i Desenvolupament del CSIC y el Institut de la M\u00e0cula de Barcelona. Sin embargo, a\u00fan se encuentran lejos de la aplicaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica de este procedimiento ya que es necesario conseguir el f\u00e1rmaco adecuado, \u201ca\u00fan estamos lejos de poder ofrecer un tratamiento a los pacientes, el que hemos probado en peces a\u00fan no es lo bastante bueno para uso cl\u00ednico\u201d, explica Gorostiza. El f\u00e1rmaco elegido deber\u00e1 ser sensible al espectro de colores que el ser humano es capaz de ver. No obstante, el plan de trabajo considera diversas pruebas en animales de mayor tama\u00f1o como cerdos, y en retinas humanas de donantes antes de comenzar los ensayos en personas. Incluso planean realizar las primeras pruebas del f\u00e1rmaco en perros ciegos una vez que sean seguras. Los ensayos consiguen conocer si el tratamiento logra restaurar la agudeza visual, es decir la nitidez y la distinci\u00f3n de detalles.
