The study was published in <em>Neuron<\/em>, whose hypothesis holds that calcium signaling of astrocytes could decrease the behavioral effects of amphetamine.<\/p><p>Dopamine benefits the brain's reward processes, contributing to learning and memory. Dopamine discontinuation is associated with disorders related to addiction and the use of substances such as amphetamines.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-40f50c8 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no wpr-equal-height-no\" data-id=\"40f50c8\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-25a4b09\" data-id=\"25a4b09\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4d0217d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4d0217d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The study shows that astrocytes contribute to information processing and how organisms work, beyond their traditional consideration as \"support cells\" for the brain.<\/p><p>The research was led by Dr. Michelle Corkrum, in which they found that astrocytes respond to dopamine with calcium increases in the nucleus accumbens, a group of brain neurons that function as one of the main reward centers in the brain. \u201cThis increase in calcium was related to the release of ATP\/adenosine to modulate neural activity in the nucleus accumbens. Then, they looked specifically at amphetamine because it is known to increase dopamine and psychomotor activity in organisms. They found that astrocytes respond to amphetamine with increases in calcium, and if astrocyte activity is ablated, the behavioral effect of amphetamine decreases in a mouse model.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Corkrum explained the advances found through this research: \u201cThese findings suggest that astrocytes contribute to amphetamine signaling, dopamine signaling and overall reward signaling in the brain,\u201d Corkrum said. \u201cBecause of this, astrocytes are a potentially novel cell type that can be specifically targeted to develop efficacious therapies for diseases with dysregulated dopamine.\u201d<\/p><p>The Faculty of Medicine will continue the research and conduct further tests to determine the amount of activity of Michelle Corkrum, en la cual encontraron que los astrocitos responden a la dopamina con aumentos de calcio en el n\u00facleo accumbens, grupo de neuronas encef\u00e1licas que funcionan como uno de los principales centros de recompensa en el cerebro. \u201cEste aumento de calcio se relacion\u00f3 con la liberaci\u00f3n de ATP\/adenosina para modular la actividad neural en el n\u00facleo accumbens.&nbsp;Luego, analizaron espec\u00edficamente la anfetamina porque se sabe que aumenta la dopamina y la actividad psicomotora en los organismos.&nbsp;Descubrieron que los astrocitos responden a la anfetamina con aumentos de calcio, y si se elimina la actividad de los astrocitos, el efecto conductual de la anfetamina disminuye en un modelo de rat\u00f3n\u201d. Corkrum explic\u00f3 los avances encontrados gracias a esta investigaci\u00f3n: \u201cEstos hallazgos sugieren que los astrocitos contribuyen a la se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de anfetamina, la se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de la dopamina y la se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de recompensa general en el cerebro\u201d. \u201cDebido a esto, los astrocitos son un tipo de c\u00e9lula potencialmente novedoso que puede ser dirigido espec\u00edficamente para desarrollar terapias eficaces para enfermedades con dopamina desregulada\u201d.
