Mesoporous silica particles (MSP) are a type of ingestible synthetic silica particles that can be produced with a large surface area and a range of pore sizes,\u201d explains Tore Bengtsson of the Wenner-Grenn Institute at Stockholm University in Sweden.<\/p><p>The hypothesis raised that particles could be used as \"molecular sieves\" in the gut to trap and block digestive enzymes that break down food and thus reduce energy absorption in the body. To perform the corresponding tests, the mice were fed high calorie and fat diets combined with MSP. Los resultados mostraron que las MSP redujeron la eficiencia alimentaria en un 33% lo que signific\u00f3 un menor aumento de peso en los roedores y un efecto positivo en el perfil metab\u00f3lico. \u201cLos datos presentados en este estudio sugieren que los MSP personalizados podr\u00edan usarse para tratar la obesidad y la diabetes en humanos, especialmente si se tienen en cuenta sus excelentes perfiles de seguridad.
