The research was published in the journal Nature.<\/p><p>\u201cPeople had thought there was very little the immune system could do to combat brain tumors,\u201d explained Akiko Iwasaki, lead author of the study, who serves as a professor of immunobiology and biology and cell development.<\/p><p>Jean-Leon Thomas, professor of neurology at Yale, also co-authored this research, made annotations on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-C), a gene that stimulates vessels lining the inside of the skull and also collects tissue waste, to be removed by the lymphatic system. When combined with immune system checkpoint inhibitors commonly used in immunotherapy, the VEGF-C treatment significantly extended survival of the mice. El planteamiento de Thomas sugiere si el VEGF-C podr\u00eda aumentar la respuesta inmune si se aumentara el drenaje linf\u00e1tico. \u201cEl equipo introdujo VEGF C en el l\u00edquido cefalorraqu\u00eddeo de ratones con glioblastoma y observ\u00f3 un mayor nivel de respuesta de las c\u00e9lulas T a los tumores en el cerebro.&nbsp;Cuando se combina con inhibidores de puntos de control del sistema inmunol\u00f3gico com\u00fanmente usados \u200b\u200ben inmunoterapia, el tratamiento con VEGF-C extendi\u00f3 significativamente la supervivencia de los ratones.&nbsp;En otras palabras, la introducci\u00f3n de VEGF-C, junto con f\u00e1rmacos de inmunoterapia contra el c\u00e1ncer, aparentemente fue suficiente para atacar los tumores cerebrales\u201d, explican en el comunicado de prensa de la Universidad de Yale sobre este avance. El prop\u00f3sito de la investigaci\u00f3n es dar a conocer que es posible llevar este tipo de tratamientos a pacientes con glioblastoma y brindar una alternativa a las quimioterapias.
