Ecuador through different programs and projects has relied on Telehealth to offer care to patients and the general population. <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Ecuador was one of the first countries in South America to confirm COVID-19 cases. Therefore, it was one of the first countries in the region to use digital tools for the prevention of contagion and establish a communicative channel with the population.<\/p>

On March 25, President Len\u00edn Moreno introduced the smartphone app, SaludEC,https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.phuyusalud.movil&hl=es<\/a>).<\/p>

This application seeks to serve citizens during the emergency by COVID-19 and provide official information on the progress of the disease in the country.<\/p>

The app seeks to know and monitor the health status of those who have symptoms of coronavirus disease. In addition to the symptom assessment, the application collects data for epidemiological surveillance in the South American country.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The application was created after the health emergency; however, it not only caters to calls by COVID-19, but is an application that provides medical care to all citizens. In its first six hours, the app had more than 12,000 downloads, proving that digital channels are ideal for dealing with public health issues.<\/p>

In addition to government actions, society and private investment has also responded to the emergency call, through the application of digital tools. For example, Goctors (https:\/\/www.goctors.com\/<\/a>), a telemedicine platform with years of experience, implemented its project \u201cTu Cita Solidaria\u201d -or Your Solidarity Appointment in English-, that offers free medical care for vulnerable people. The platform has a team of 150 volunteers, and its goal is to reach 500 doctors who provide their services through remote consultations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Volunteers must donate 10 appointments per week to be part of the project. As for the system of use, patients choose through WhatsApp the specialty they are looking for: general medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, psychology and family medicine.<\/p>

Another platform that promotes the use of tools in Digital Health is Teleasistencia & Telesalud (https:\/\/teleasistencia.ec\/<\/a>), which was created by the Ecuadorian Research Development Corporation and the Academy (Cedia).<\/p>

Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion, the Ministry of Public Health, Universities, psychological care organizations and hospitals, it can provide a quality telemedicine service, in addition the Technical University of Ambato and the University of Cuenca offer legal care services in cases of domestic violence.<\/p>

According to data from their website, they have provided more than 3200 medical guidance through Zoom and have almost 500 health professionals supporting the project, in addition to more than seven educational and health institutions linked to the project.<\/p>

The importance of digital platforms in times of emergency lies in preventing mobility of any kind among the population and avoiding the saturation of health centers. This is why Digital Health tools, such as teleconsultation or telemedicine, are necessary to provide medical assistance without leaving home. Ecuador a trav\u00e9s de diferentes programas y proyectos se ha apoyado en la Telesalud para ofrecer atenci\u00f3n a pacientes y poblaci\u00f3n en general. Ecuador fue uno de los primeros pa\u00edses en Sudam\u00e9rica en confirmar casos de COVID-19. Por lo tanto, fue uno de los primeros pa\u00edses de la regi\u00f3n en utilizar herramientas digitales para la prevenci\u00f3n de contagios y establecer un canal comunicativo con la poblaci\u00f3n. El 25 de marzo el presidente Len\u00edn Moreno present\u00f3 la aplicaci\u00f3n para smartphones, SaludEC, (https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.phuyusalud.movil&hl=es). Mediante esta aplicaci\u00f3n se busca atender a los ciudadanos durante la emergencia por COVID-19 y brindar informaci\u00f3n oficial sobre el avance de la enfermedad en el pa\u00eds. La app busca conocer y monitorear el estado de salud de aquellos que presentan s\u00edntomas de la enfermedad por coronavirus. Adem\u00e1s de la evaluaci\u00f3n de s\u00edntomas, la aplicaci\u00f3n recopila datos para la vigilancia epidemiol\u00f3gica en el pa\u00eds sudamericano. La aplicaci\u00f3n fue creada tras la emergencia sanitaria, sin embargo, no solo atiende a los llamados por COVID-19, sino que se trata de una aplicaci\u00f3n que brinda atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica a todos los ciudadanos. En sus primeras seis horas, la aplicaci\u00f3n tuvo m\u00e1s de 12 mil descargas, demostrando que los canales digitales son ideales para tratar temas de salud p\u00fablica. Adem\u00e1s de las acciones del gobierno, la sociedad civil y la inversi\u00f3n privada tambi\u00e9n ha respondido al llamado de emergencia, mediante la aplicaci\u00f3n de herramientas digitales. Por ejemplo, Goctors (https:\/\/www.goctors.com\/), una plataforma de telemedicina que cuenta con a\u00f1os de experiencia, implement\u00f3 su proyecto “Tu Cita Solidaria” que ofrece atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica gratuita para poblaci\u00f3n en situaci\u00f3n vulnerable. La plataforma cuenta con un equipo de 150 voluntarios, y su meta es llegar a 500 m\u00e9dicos que brinden sus servicios mediante consultas remotas. Los voluntarios deben donar 10 citas por semana para formar parte del proyecto. En cuanto al sistema de uso, los pacientes eligen mediante WhatsApp la especialidad que buscan: medicina general, medicina interna, pediatr\u00eda, ginecolog\u00eda, psicolog\u00eda y medicina familiar. Otra plataforma que promueve el uso de herramientas en Salud Digital es Teleasistencia & Telesalud (https:\/\/teleasistencia.ec\/), la cual fue creada por la Corporaci\u00f3n Ecuatoriana para el Desarrollo de la Investigaci\u00f3n y la Academia (Cedia). Gracias al apoyo del Ministerio de Inclusi\u00f3n Econ\u00f3mica y Social, el Ministerio de Salud P\u00fablica, Universidades, organizaciones de atenci\u00f3n psicol\u00f3gica y hospitales se puede brindar un servicio de telemedicina de calidad, adicionalmente la Universidad T\u00e9cnica de Ambato y la Universidad de Cuenca ofrecen servicios de atenci\u00f3n legal en casos de violencia intrafamiliar.
