The guide, published by the Inter-American Development Bank, considers the essential health considerations that must be present to ensure safe and clean spaces for students and teachers in the return to school following the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The four considerations indicated by the document are as follows:<\/p>

  1. Ensure social distancing;<\/li>
  2. Keep schools clean and disinfected;<\/li>
  3. Ensure that students and teachers enter school healthy and stay healthy;<\/li>
  4. Provide easy access to hand washing facilities<\/li><\/ol>

    The first consideration\u2019s strategy proposes a gradual or staggered reopening in schools to prevent contagion. With a gradual reopening, students would see their hours of face-to-face teaching reduced to complement their courses through online platforms, a modality that had to be adopted since the COVID-19 outbreak and closure of schools and universities since March.<\/p>

    The IDB proposes that the measures be different according to the geographical area occupied by the school, starting the reopening in rural areas or with low population density may be a viable alternative, as these areas suffer from difficulties in providing distance education.<\/p>

    Stagger arrival and departure times from school and increase the space between desks to avoid close contacts between students and teachers.<\/p>

    Other measures included by the IDB in its series of strategies include: canceling excursion activities and assemblies that include multiple groups, avoiding bringing students together in common areas, restricting clumping in hallways and bathrooms, and finally educating staff, students, and families so that the rules of each school are respected.<\/p>

    As for consideration B, which promotes the intensification of disinfection and cleaning of spaces, it is included to provide cleaning kits to the cleaning staff and provide them with training. Routine cleaning and disinfection will be more careful and intense on the return, which is why teaching students and other educational staff must be trained to keep their space clean and disinfected (desks, chairs and tables).<\/p>

    Other important recommendations are the use of natural ventilation, opening doors and windows regularly to increase air circulation; increase in grooming staff; and the establishment of a protocol if a positive case of COVID-19 is detected in the school community,<\/strong>which must include cancelling classes for 2 to 5 days, so that the authorities can determine what the recommendations are.<\/p>

    Criterion C, which refers to the health of students and teachers, recommends the implementation of hand-washing protocols as a routine, for example, every two hours, in addition, to urge students and teachers who do not feel good stay at home. These strategies include creating posters and posters around the school so parents, students, and teachers can view that information.<\/p>

    Other points include the adoption of flexible policies for disease-goers and the promotion of the use of masks among students and teachers.<\/p>

    Point D, indicates the actions to be taken in the pre-return schools, such as checking the conditions of the baths and sinks, the conditioning of the infrastructure is recommended to ensure the correct sanitation conditions in the schools. Schools must have sufficient water and access to hand soap.<\/p>

    These measures will play a critical role in the safe return to schools and to foster new realities about cleanliness and social estrangement measures in schools.<\/p>

    El documento \u201cEstrategias de reapertura de escuelas durante COVID-19\u201d, indica estrategias sanitarias a considerar para la reapertura de escuelas. La gu\u00eda, publicada por el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, considera los criterios sanitarios esenciales que deben estar presentes para garantizar espacios seguros y limpios para alumnos y docentes en el regreso a clases tras la pandemia de COVID-19. Los cuatro criterios que el documento indica son los siguientes: Asegurar el distanciamiento social. Mantener las escuelas limpias y desinfectadas. Asegurar que los alumnos y docentes lleguen y se mantengan saludables en la escuela. Asegurar acceso a lavamanos.   Cada criterio cuenta con una serie de estrategias necesarias para asegurar su correcto cumplimiento. La estrategia del criterio A propone una reapertura gradual o escalonada en los centros educativos para evitar contagios. Con una reapertura gradual, los alumnos ver\u00edan reducidas sus horas de ense\u00f1anza presencial para complementar sus cursos mediante plataformas online, modalidad que tuvo que ser adoptada desde el brote de COVID-19 y cierre de escuelas y universidades desde marzo. El BID propone que las medidas sean distintas de acuerdo al \u00e1rea geogr\u00e1fica que ocupe el centro educativo, comenzar por zonas rurales o con baja densidad poblacional puede resultar una alternativa viable, ya que estas zonas sufren de dificultades para proveer educaci\u00f3n a distancia. Escalonar horarios de llegada y salida de la escuela y aumentar el espacio entre escritorios para evitar contactos cercanos entre alumnos y profesores. Otras medidas que incluye el BID en su serie de estrategias son: cancelar actividades de excursi\u00f3n y asambleas que incluyan a varios grupos, evitar juntar estudiantes en \u00e1reas comunes, restringir el aglutinamiento en pasillos y ba\u00f1os, y finalmente educar al personal, a los estudiantes y a las familias para que las reglas de cada instituci\u00f3n educativa sean respetadas. En cuanto al punto B, que promueve la intensificaci\u00f3n de la desinfecci\u00f3n y limpieza de los espacios, se incluyen proveer kits de limpieza al personal de limpieza y brindarles entrenamiento. La limpieza y desinfecci\u00f3n rutinaria ser\u00e1 m\u00e1s cuidadosa e intensa en el regreso, es por eso que alumnos docentes y dem\u00e1s personal educativo deber\u00e1n ser entrenados para mantener su espacio limpio y desinfectado (pupitres, escritorios, sillas y mesas). Otras recomendaciones importantes son el uso de ventilaci\u00f3n natural, abrir puertas y ventanas con regularidad para incrementar la circulaci\u00f3n del aire; el incremento en la plantilla del personal de aseo; y el establecimiento de un protocolo en caso de que se detecte un caso positivo de COVID-19 en la comunidad escolar, que debe incluir cancelar clases de 2 a 5 d\u00edas, para que las autoridades puedan determinar cu\u00e1les son las recomendaciones. El criterio C, que se refiere a la salud de los alumnos y docentes, recomienda la implementaci\u00f3n de protocolos de lavado de manos como rutina, por ejemplo, cada dos horas, adem\u00e1s, de instar a los alumnos y docentes que no se sienten bien se queden en casa. Estas estrategias incluyen la creaci\u00f3n de carteles y posters alrededor de la escuela para que padres, alumnos y maestros puedan consultar dicha informaci\u00f3n. Otros puntos son la adopci\u00f3n de pol\u00edticas flexibles para inasistencias por enfermedad y el fomento del uso de mascarillas entre alumnos y docentes. El punto D, indica las acciones a realizar en los centros educativos previo al regreso, como verificar las condiciones de los ba\u00f1os y lavamanos, se recomienda el acondicionamiento de la infraestructura para asegurar condiciones correctas de saneamiento en las escuelas. Las escuelas deben contar con agua suficiente y con acceso a jab\u00f3n para manos. Estas medidas jugar\u00e1n un rol cr\u00edtico para el regreso seguro a las escuelas y para fomentar nuevas realidades sobre la limpieza y las medidas de distanciamiento social en los centros educativos.
