Real-time tracking of self-reported symptoms to predict potential COVID-19, is the title this study conducted by 20 researchers from Nature. More than 2.6 million people participated in it, by reporting their COVID-19 symptoms through a mobile app.<\/p>

The COVID Symptom Study app was developed by a technology company supported by Massachusetts General Hospital and King's College London. It was made available free of charge to users in the UK and the US at the end of March, and by mid-April it had more than 2.6 million users, which allowed the development of the mentioned study.<\/p>

For the recording of symptoms users had to enter their location, age, risk factors, to subsequently update their symptoms on a daily basis and record if they were attended by a doctor and the result of their test.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

This study yielded significant results, a total of 18,401 patients took a COVID-19 test. In terms of positive results, participants who reported loss of smell and taste recorded a higher proportion of positive results (4,668 out of 7,178).<\/p>

That is why the mass adoption of such applications that have medical research purposes, are important for the development of new knowledge about this new disease.<\/p>

Fue puesta a disposici\u00f3n de forma gratuita a usuarios en el Reino Unido y EEUU a finales de marzo, para mediados de abril contaba con m\u00e1s de 2.6 millones de usuarios, lo que permiti\u00f3 el desarrollo del estudio mencionado. Para el registro de los s\u00edntomas los usuarios debieron ingresar su ubicaci\u00f3n, edad, factores de riesgo, para posteriormente actualizar sus s\u00edntomas diariamente y registrar si fueron atendidos por un m\u00e9dico y el resultado de su prueba. Este estudio arroj\u00f3 resultados importantes, en total 18 mil 401 pacientes se sometieron a prueba de COVID-19. En cuanto a los resultados positivos, los participantes que registraron perdida de olfato y sabor registraron una mayor proporci\u00f3n de resultados positivos (4,668 de 7,178). Es por ello que la adopci\u00f3n masiva de este tipo de aplicaciones que tienen fines de investigaci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica, son importantes para el desarrollo de nuevos conocimientos sobre esta nueva enfermedad. Durante la emergencia sanitaria han sido creadas miles de aplicaciones y plataformas de verificaci\u00f3n de s\u00edntomas, ya sea por organismos p\u00fablicos o privados. La OMS por su parte, inform\u00f3 sobre una aplicaci\u00f3n de monitoreo de s\u00edntomas que ser\u00e1 proporcionada a pa\u00edses que no cuentan con los recursos para distribuir y desarrollar su propio sistema digital.
