The use of the IRIS System, International Death Cause System, developed by the German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information, was presented along with other experiences and use cases in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Department of Evidence and Intelligence for Health Action, <\/strong>which belongs to the World Health Organization (WHO), <\/strong>presented the IRIS International Cause of Death System, in which practices on mortality information are discussed and implemented at a world level. These will be used to collect data and statistics from the health sector, to the evaluation of interventions, planning and health care.<\/p>

The operation of Iris is required by means of the death certificates issued and whose causes of death must be codified to select the main cause of death. The procedures for coding and selection must be carried out by trained coding personnel, who are advised and have special knowledge of the algorithms based on codes assigned to medical terms, causal relationships accepted or rejected and application of rules or detection steps.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

It\u2019s considered important to have standardized systems to collect information, since it allows to support medical research and make informed decisions on public health issues based on the comparison of data by seasonality and regions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The efficiency of the automated coding provided by the IRIS System<\/strong> has been confirmed, since the evidence shows that it solves more than 80% of the causes of death with precision, quality and homogeneity in its results, reducing working times.<\/p>

For example, in Latin America - specifically in Mexico and Chile - the user experience has been guided by interactive tutorials that show a simulation of each aspect of the program and sections of the interface, so that they can capture the corresponding data, assign Identification codes for each registered cause and describe them.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

With this, it\u2019s expected that the results will be obtained in a more precise and clear way thanks to the collaboration between the machine - which has its own programmed algorithms - and a specialist supervisor that gives greater confidence to the analysis and statistics obtained.<\/p>

El uso del Sistema IRIS, Sistema Internacional de Causa de Muerte, desarrollado por el Instituto Alem\u00e1n para la Documentaci\u00f3n e Informaci\u00f3n M\u00e9dica, se present\u00f3 junto a otras experiencias y casos de uso en Brasil, Chile, Colombia, M\u00e9xico y Per\u00fa. El Departamento de Evidencia e Inteligencia para la Acci\u00f3n de Salud, el cual pertenece a la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud (OMS), expuso el Sistema Internacional de Causa de Muerte IRIS, en el cual se hablan y ejecutan pr\u00e1cticas sobre la informaci\u00f3n de mortalidad a nivel mundial. Estas servir\u00e1n para recabar datos y estad\u00edsticas del sector salud, a la evaluaci\u00f3n de las intervenciones, la planeaci\u00f3n y el cuidado de la salud. El funcionamiento de Iris se precisa por medio de los certificados de defunci\u00f3n expedidos y, cuyas causas de muerte deben ser codificadas para seleccionar el motivo principal de defunci\u00f3n. Los procedimientos para la codificaci\u00f3n y selecci\u00f3n deben realizarse por personal codificador capacitado, el cual est\u00e1 asesorado y tiene especial conocimiento de los algoritmos basados en c\u00f3digos asignados a t\u00e9rminos m\u00e9dicos, relaciones causales aceptadas o rechazadas y aplicaci\u00f3n de reglas o pasos de detecci\u00f3n. Se considera importante contar con sistemas estandarizados para recolectar informaci\u00f3n, ya que permite apoyar la investigaci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica y tomar decisiones informadas en temas de salud p\u00fablica con base en la comparaci\u00f3n de datos por temporalidad y regiones. La eficiencia de la codificaci\u00f3n automatizada que provee el Sistema IRIS ha sido confirmada, ya que las evidencias demuestran que resuelve m\u00e1s del 80% de las causas de defunci\u00f3n con precisi\u00f3n, calidad y homogeneidad en sus resultados, disminuyendo los tiempos de trabajo. Por ejemplo, en Am\u00e9rica Latina \u2013 espec\u00edficamente en M\u00e9xico y Chile \u2013 la experiencia de los usuarios ha sido guiada por tutoriales interactivos que muestran una simulaci\u00f3n de cada aspecto del programa y secciones de la interfaz, para que as\u00ed, puedan capturar los datos correspondientes, asignar c\u00f3digos de identificaci\u00f3n por cada causa registrada y describirlas. Con esto se espera que los resultados se obtengan de una manera m\u00e1s precisa y clara gracias a la colaboraci\u00f3n entre la m\u00e1quina -que cuenta con sus propios algoritmos programados \u2013 y un supervisor especialista que denote una confianza mayor a los an\u00e1lisis y estad\u00edsticas obtenidas. En esta etapa, la inteligencia artificial todav\u00eda necesita asistencia humana, aunque en el caso del Sistema IRIS, se reducen en gran medida el tiempo que los cient\u00edficos e investigadores antes invert\u00edan.
