The Biob\u00edo Regional Center for Telemedicine and Telehealth joined the Concepci\u00f3n Health Service initiative to improve health care services on Santa Mar\u00eda Island.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Island of Santa Mar\u00eda belongs to the Biob\u00edo region, specifically to the province of Concepci\u00f3n. Recently, unfortunate events occurred that have affected the health of its inhabitants on the island due to the lack of timely medical care. Due to its geographical context, emergency services on the island are very limited. The island is located opposite the province of Arauco and is 29 kilometers from the ports of the Commune of Coronel (to which it belongs) and Lota.<\/p>

Recently, the Concepci\u00f3n Health Service (SSC) formed an alliance between various institutions in the region to offer remote health services. The SSC seeks that the implementation of telemedicine in remote areas allows timely care in cases of medical emergency, as is the case of Santa Mar\u00eda Island.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Catholic University of the Sant\u00edsima Concepci\u00f3n (UCSC), the University of Concepci\u00f3n (UdeC) and the Regional Government are part of this initiative and now the Biob\u00edo Regional Center for Telemedicine and Telehealth (CRT) has joined.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr. Jaime Tapia, deputy director of health care at SSC explained that "the objective of this project is to provide equal opportunities in health to the inhabitants of the island, for which a trip to the island territory is planned to meet the needs of the families and implement a telehealth system for the island.\u201d<\/p>

For her part, the municipal health director of Coronel, Melissa Cifuentes, explained that it is hopeful to have innovative alternatives that facilitate medical care for the inhabitants of Santa Mar\u00eda Island. \u201cWe hope to provide concrete solutions and through telemedicine make a big difference. We want to bring the care we have on the mainland closer and help the islanders as much as possible,\u201d he added.<\/p>

On the other hand, one of the leading specialists in telehealth in Chile, Dr. Angelica Avenda\u00f1o, director of the Biob\u00edo CRT belonging to the Telemedicine Unit of the UdeC, of which she is also in charge, explained that this initiative is an opportunity to strengthen the capacities that are already installed, and tackle problem solving jointly.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

El Centro Regional de Telemedicina y Telesalud del Biob\u00edo se unieron a la iniciativa del Servicio de Salud de Concepci\u00f3n para mejorar los servicios de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica en la Isla Santa Mar\u00eda. La Isla de Santa Mar\u00eda pertenece a la regi\u00f3n del Biob\u00edo, espec\u00edficamente a la provincia de Concepci\u00f3n. Recientemente, acontecieron hechos lamentables que han afectado la salud de sus habitantes de la isla al no contar con atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica oportuna. Debido a su contexto geogr\u00e1fico los servicios de emergencia en la isla son muy limitados. La isla est\u00e1 situada frente a la provincia de Arauco y se encuentra a 29 kil\u00f3metros de los puertos de la Comuna de Coronel (a la que pertenece) y de Lota. Recientemente, el Servicio de Salud de Concepci\u00f3n (SSC) form\u00f3 una alianza entre diversas instituciones de la regi\u00f3n para ofrecer servicios de salud a distancia. El SSC busca que la implementaci\u00f3n de telemedicina en zonas remotas permita la atenci\u00f3n oportuna en casos de emergencia m\u00e9dica, como es el caso de la Isla Santa Mar\u00eda. La Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de la Sant\u00edsima Concepci\u00f3n (UCSC), la Universidad de Concepci\u00f3n (UdeC) y el Gobierno Regional forman parte esta iniciativa y ahora se ha sumado el Centro Regional de Telemedicina y Telesalud del Biob\u00edo (CRT). El Dr. Jaime Tapia, subdirector de salud asistencial en SSC explic\u00f3 que \u201cel objetivo de este proyecto es otorgar igualdad de oportunidades en salud a los habitantes de la isla, para lo cual se planifica un viaje al territorio insular para conocer las necesidades de las familias e implementar un sistema de telesalud para la isla\u201d. Por su parte, la directora de salud municipal de Coronel, Melissa Cifuentes, explic\u00f3 que es esperanzador contar con alternativas novedosas que faciliten la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica a los habitantes de la Isla Santa Mar\u00eda. \u201cEsperamos dar soluciones concretas y a trav\u00e9s de la telemedicina hacer la gran diferencia. Queremos acercar la atenci\u00f3n que tenemos en el continente y ayudar lo m\u00e1s posible a los isle\u00f1os\u201d, agreg\u00f3. Por otra parte, una de las mayores especialistas en telesalud en Chile, la Dra. Angelica Avenda\u00f1o, directora del dirige el CRT Biob\u00edo perteneciente a la Unidad de Telemedicina de la UdeC, de la que tambi\u00e9n es encargada, explic\u00f3 que esta iniciativa es una oportunidad de fortalecer las capacidades que ya est\u00e1n instaladas, y abordar la resoluci\u00f3n de problemas de manera conjunta.
