It is one of the most relevant documents on this condition in Mexico, since it provides scientific and academic information on the epidemiological situation of breast cancer in Mexico, risk factors, treatment, and more.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In 1994, the first meeting of the Mexican Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer was held and since 2000 it has been periodically updated to become a guide for oncologists and medical institutions in the country that treat this disease. In addition, it is considered a base document for the Official Mexican Standard NOM-041-SSA2-2002, for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, control and epidemiological surveillance of breast cancer.<\/p>

In 2021, its ninth version was presented, with the support of institutions such as the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the Ministry of Health (SSA), the National Cancer Institute, the Mexican Society of Oncology, the Breast Cancer Foundation ( FUCAM), among others.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The ninth Colima 2021 review begins with a tour of the epidemiology of breast cancer in the country, which is the most frequent malignant tumor in women worldwide and the leading cause of death from cancer. At the regional level, data from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is shown, which reports that an increase of 60% is expected by 2030.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In Mexico, breast cancer has increased steadily in incidence and mortality over the last 30 years. The document explains that the increase in cases of this condition is also due to a sub-registration in previous years. Similarly, the Consensus details the deficiencies related to education and information about the disease, as well as the lack of a timely detection program at the national level accompanied by specialized breast units.<\/p>

However, there has also been a steady increase in the life expectancy of patients who were diagnosed, 77 years in women and 75 in men.<\/p>

Regarding risk factors, the Consensus explains the biological determinants such as: being an elderly woman, a history of cancer in first-degree relatives, a history of atypical ductal hyperplasia, radial imaging and lobular carcinoma in situ, menstrual life greater than 40 years, breast density and being a carrier of mutations in breast cancer susceptibility genes.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

However, there are also factors associated with the treatment of previous diseases such as exposure to radiation; reproductive factors; factors related to lifestyle such as sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smoking or alcohol consumption. In this sense, the document indicates that the most important risk factor in lifestyle is obesity and in Mexico this condition is present in a large percentage of the population, representing a public health problem.<\/p>

Furthermore, the document explores early diagnostic options such as breast imaging evaluation. There are various methods such as screening studies and imaging studies, which include mammography and digital mammography. One of the last chapters of the consensus also shows scientific information on the physical rehabilitation of patients with breast cancer, which must be as effective as possible. In this way, it seeks to guarantee a better quality of life not only in survivors of the disease, but also in terminally ill patients.<\/p>

And finally, as it is the 2021 version, the institutions and organizations involved added a specialized chapter on COVID-19 and breast cancer, which details recommendations for patients and medical specialists in detecting symptoms of COVID-19 and the need and importance of seeking medical attention early to avoid complications.<\/p>

Se trata de uno de los documentos m\u00e1s relevantes sobre este padecimiento en M\u00e9xico, ya que brinda informaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica y acad\u00e9mica, sobre la situaci\u00f3n epidemiol\u00f3gica del c\u00e1ncer de mama en M\u00e9xico, factores de riesgo, tratamiento, y m\u00e1s. En el a\u00f1o de 1994 se realiz\u00f3 la primera reuni\u00f3n del Consenso Mexicano sobre Diagn\u00f3stico y Tratamiento del C\u00e1ncer Mamario y desde el a\u00f1o 2000 se ha actualizado de forma peri\u00f3dica para convertirse en una gu\u00eda para los onc\u00f3logos e instituciones m\u00e9dicas del pa\u00eds que atienden este padecimiento. Adem\u00e1s, es considerado un documento base para la Norma Oficial Mexicana NOM-041-SSA2-2002, Para la prevenci\u00f3n, diagn\u00f3stico, tratamiento, control y vigilancia epidemiol\u00f3gica del c\u00e1ncer de mama. En 2021 fue presentada su novena versi\u00f3n, con el apoyo de instituciones como el Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), la Secretar\u00eda de Salud (SSA), el Instituto Nacional de Cancerolog\u00eda, la Sociedad Mexicana de Oncolog\u00eda, Fundaci\u00f3n de C\u00e1ncer de Mama (FUCAM), entre otras. La novena revisi\u00f3n Colima 2021, inicia con un recorrido de la epidemiolog\u00eda del c\u00e1ncer mamario en el pa\u00eds, que se trata del tumor maligno m\u00e1s frecuente en las mujeres a nivel mundial y la primera causa de muerte por c\u00e1ncer. A nivel regional se muestran datos de Organizaci\u00f3n Panamericana de la Salud (OPS), que informa que para 2030 se espera un incremento de 60%. En M\u00e9xico el C\u00e1ncer de mama ha incrementado de forma constante en incidencia y mortalidad durante los \u00faltimos 30 a\u00f1os. El documento explica que el incremento de casos de este padecimiento tambi\u00e9n se debe a un sub registro en a\u00f1os anteriores. De igual forma el Consenso detalla las deficiencias relativas a la educaci\u00f3n e informaci\u00f3n sobre la enfermedad, as\u00ed como la carencia de un programa de detecci\u00f3n oportuna a nivel nacional acompa\u00f1ada de unidades mamarias especializadas. No obstante, tambi\u00e9n se ha registrado un incremento constante en la esperanza de vida de los pacientes que fueron diagnosticados, 77 a\u00f1os en mujeres y 75 en hombres. En cuanto a los factores de riesgo, el Consenso explica los determinantes biol\u00f3gicos como: ser mujer en edad avanzada, historial de c\u00e1ncer en familiares de primer grado, antecedentes de hiperplasia ductal at\u00edpica, imagen radial y carcinoma lobulillar in situ, vida menstrual mayor de 40 a\u00f1os, densidad mamaria y ser portador\/a de mutaciones en genes de susceptibilidad a c\u00e1ncer de mama. No obstante, tambi\u00e9n existen factores asociados al tratamiento de enfermedades previas como la exposici\u00f3n a radiaci\u00f3n; factores reproductivos; factores relacionados con el estilo de vida como sedentarismo, obesidad, tabaquismo o consumo de alcohol. En este sentido el documento indica que el factor de riesgo m\u00e1s importante en el estilo de vida es la obesidad y en M\u00e9xico esta condici\u00f3n se encuentra presente en un gran porcentaje de la poblaci\u00f3n, representando un problema de salud p\u00fablica. Por otra parte, el documento explora las opciones de diagn\u00f3stico temprano como la evaluaci\u00f3n de la mama por imagen. Existen diversos m\u00e9todos como estudios de tamizaje y estudios de imagen, los cuales incluyen mastograf\u00eda y mastograf\u00eda digital. Esta \u00faltima cl\u00ednicamente incrementa la detecci\u00f3n del c\u00e1ncer en pacientes con mamas densas, que es un factor de riesgo conocido. Uno de los \u00faltimos cap\u00edtulos del consenso, tambi\u00e9n muestra informaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica sobre la rehabilitaci\u00f3n f\u00edsica de las pacientes con c\u00e1ncer de mama, los cuales deben ser lo m\u00e1s efectivos posibles. De esta forma de busca garantizar mejor calidad de vida no solo en supervivientes de la enfermedad, sino tambi\u00e9n en pacientes en etapa terminal.
