The Pan American Health Organization is planning the implementation of a health QR code to improve response capacity to epidemics and other public health problems at the regional level.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

PAHO's Digital Health Advisor, Marcelo D'Agostino, participated in the Conectat\u00f3n, which included the participation of various Latin American and Caribbean countries. During his presentation, D'Agostino explained that PAHO intends to standardize a health QR code for the countries of the region, for consulting valuable data on the health of the population.<\/p>

The first edition of the Regional Conectat\u00f3n was held in Chile from May 30 to June 1 and aimed to show advances in the exchange of clinical information in a safe and timely manner. In addition to D'Agostino, the event included representatives from national health ministries and information technology experts.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In this sense, one of the main initiatives presented during said event was the health QR Code. The PAHO Digital Health specialist mentioned that they want Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname and Uruguay, the countries participating in the Conectat\u00f3n, to join the initiative.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The health QR proposal is similar to the Mobility Pass implemented in Chile to verify the vaccination status of the population. In other words, the key to this proposal is the interconnectivity of the information available on people's health, but at the regional level and not only taking into account vaccination against COVID-19.<\/p>

\u201cWe are organizing an event that in turn has three lines of discussion: One is Conectat\u00f3n, the other has to do with how the countries are going to accelerate all the processes towards the digital certification of the Covid-19 vaccine and how this is related with the immunization information systems of the countries. And the third line is a discussion on the work of the countries in telehealth issues, with a focus on the fight against chronic non-communicable diseases\u201d, explained D'Agostino.<\/p>

In addition, D'Agostino added that interconnectivity and data exchange between countries can improve the ability to control epidemics or other public health problems at the regional level.<\/p>

La Organizaci\u00f3n Panamericana de la Salud se encuentra planeando la implementaci\u00f3n de un c\u00f3digo QR sanitario para para mejorar la capacidad de respuesta ante epidemias y otros problemas de salud p\u00fablica a nivel regional. El asesor de Salud Digital de la OPS, Marcelo D’Agostino, particip\u00f3 en la Conectat\u00f3n, que cont\u00f3 con la participaci\u00f3n de diversos pa\u00edses de Latinoam\u00e9rica y el Caribe. Durante su presentaci\u00f3n D\u2019Agostino explic\u00f3 que la OPS pretende estandarizar un c\u00f3digo QR sanitario para los pa\u00edses de la regi\u00f3n, para la consulta de datos valiosos sobre la salud de la poblaci\u00f3n. La primera edici\u00f3n de la Conectat\u00f3n Regional se realiz\u00f3 en Chile del 30 de mayo al 1 de junio y tuvo como objetivo mostrar avances en el intercambio de informaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica de forma segura y oportuna. Adem\u00e1s de D’Agostino, el evento cont\u00f3 con representantes de ministerios de salud nacionales, y expertos en tecnolog\u00edas de la informaci\u00f3n. En este sentido, una de las principales iniciativas presentadas durante dicho evento, fue el C\u00f3digo QR sanitario. El especialista de Salud Digital de la OPS, mencion\u00f3 que buscan que Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Paraguay, Per\u00fa, Surinam y Uruguay, los pa\u00edses participantes en la Conectat\u00f3n, se sumen a la iniciativa. La propuesta del QR sanitario, es similar al Pase de Movilidad implementado en Chile para verificar el estado de vacunaci\u00f3n de la poblaci\u00f3n. Es decir, la clave de esta propuesta es la interconectividad de la informaci\u00f3n disponible de la salud de las personas, pero a nivel regional y no solo tomando en cuenta la vacunaci\u00f3n contra COVID-19. \u201cEstamos organizando un evento que tiene a su vez tres l\u00edneas de discusi\u00f3n: Una es Conectat\u00f3n, la otra tiene que ver con c\u00f3mo los pa\u00edses van a acelerar todos los procesos hacia la certificaci\u00f3n digital de la vacuna del Covid-19 y c\u00f3mo se relaciona esto con los sistemas de informaci\u00f3n de inmunizaciones de los pa\u00edses. Y la tercera l\u00ednea es una discusi\u00f3n sobre el trabajo de los pa\u00edses en los temas de telesalud, con foco en la lucha contra las enfermedades cr\u00f3nicas no transmisibles\u201d, explic\u00f3 D\u2019Agostino. Adem\u00e1s, D’Agostino agreg\u00f3 que la interconectividad e intercambio de datos entre pa\u00edses, puede mejorar la capacidad de controlar epidemias u otros problemas de salud p\u00fablica a nivel regional. Por otra parte, en cuanto a la seguridad de un sistema como el que plantea la OPS, el especialista explic\u00f3 que: \u201cNosotros promovemos ese concepto del trabajo interdisciplinario en el cual hoy esa es un \u00e1rea de especializaci\u00f3n extrema y es important\u00edsimo que el sector salud coloque tambi\u00e9n expertos de ciberseguridad a la hora de formular pol\u00edticas y de tomar decisiones\u201d.
