The Digital Hospital of Chile is working with the Chilo\u00e9 Health Service to implement a strategy that works with patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1). The strategy for patients living with type 1 diabetes has begun as a pilot project on the Island of Chilo\u00e9, specifically in the city of Ancud where, despite its population of around 40,000 people, 15 people live with type 1 diabetes.<\/p>

In Chile, according to data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), there are about 13,500 people diagnosed with DM1. Likewise, the Fundaci\u00f3n Diabetes Juvenil de Chile (FDJ) has more than 8,000 registered members, of which 50% is between 10 and 30 years old.<\/p>

In this way, projects that work around the population that lives with this condition are necessary. For this reason, the Digital Hospital has the Cells and Diabetes project, which is directed by the diabetologist Carmen Gloria Bezanilla. \u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cWe started a system that does not exist in the country. DM 1 is treated in hospitals, it is secondary or tertiary care in reference hospitals. And Hospital Digital works with Primary Care in Type 2 Diabetes. So a synergy was generated between different departments and divisions of the Ministry of Health so that Hospital Digital could provide services to DM 1. In addition, as Dr. Bezanilla explains, unlike patients with type 2 diabetes, DM1 patients require multidisciplinary and specialized medical care, and also require that the patient's family be involved in the treatment.<\/p>

The Digital Hospital in collaboration with the FDJ, have toured hospitals in various locations, to manage care for these patients. \u201cWe have provided synchronous attention, that is, the doctors and teams from Chilo\u00e9 present the cases to us electronically. We make our suggestions, a resolution is made and a specific treatment is suggested for a patient, which we have been doing since the end of last year\u201d, explained Dr. Bezanilla.<\/p>

El proyecto comenz\u00f3 en Chiol\u00e9 en octubre de 2021, y han atendido de manera telem\u00e1tica a pacientes adultos que ya contaban con un diagn\u00f3stico de DM1. El Hospital Digital de Chile se encuentra trabajando con el Servicio de Salud Chilo\u00e9 para implementar una estrategia que trabaje con pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 1 (DM1). La estrategia para pacientes que viven con diabetes tipo 1, ha comenzado como un proyecto piloto en la Isla de Chilo\u00e9, espec\u00edficamente en la ciudad de Ancud donde a pesar de su poblaci\u00f3n de alrededor de 40 mil personas, 15 personas viven con diabetes tipo 1. En Chile, de acuerdo con datos de la Federaci\u00f3n Internacional de la Diabetes (IDF, en ingl\u00e9s), viven cerca de 13 mil 500 personas diagn\u00f3stico de DM1. Asimismo, la Fundaci\u00f3n Diabetes Juvenil de Chile (FDJ), cuenta con m\u00e1s de 8 mil socios inscritos, de los cuales el 50% tiene entre 10 y 30 a\u00f1os. De esta forma, son necesarios los proyectos que trabajen alrededor de poblaci\u00f3n que vive con esta condici\u00f3n.  Por ello, el Hospital Digital cuenta con el proyecto C\u00e9lulas y Diabetes, que es dirigido por la diabet\u00f3loga Carmen Gloria Bezanilla.   \u201cEchamos a andar un sistema que no existe en el pa\u00eds. La DM 1 se atiende en los hospitales, es atenci\u00f3n secundaria o terciaria en hospitales de referencia. Y Hospital Digital trabaja con la Atenci\u00f3n Primaria en Diabetes tipo 2. Entonces se gener\u00f3 una sinergia entre distintos departamentos y divisiones del Ministerio de Salud para que Hospital Digital pudiera dar prestaciones a DM 1. Contactamos a Chilo\u00e9, cuyo Servicio de Salud ha sido siempre muy proactivo a colaborar con estrategias, porque este modelo lo estamos desarrollando\u201d, explic\u00f3 la especialista. Adem\u00e1s, como explica la Dra. Bezanilla, a diferencia de los pacientes con Diabetes tipo 2, los pacientes de DM1, requieren de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica multidisciplinaria y especializada, y requiere adem\u00e1s que la familia del paciente se involucre en el tratamiento. El Hospital Digital en colaboraci\u00f3n con la FDJ, han recorrido hospitales de varias localidades, para gestionar la atenci\u00f3n para estos pacientes. \u201cHemos hecho atenciones sincr\u00f3nicas, es decir, los m\u00e9dicos y equipos de Chilo\u00e9 nos presentan los casos de manera telem\u00e1tica. Hacemos nuestras sugerencias, se hace una resoluci\u00f3n y se sugiere un tratamiento espec\u00edfico para alg\u00fan paciente, lo que venimos haciendo desde fines del a\u00f1o pasado\u201d, explic\u00f3 la Dra.
