During the HIMSS global event that took place in Orlando, FL, the General Electric company, through its GE Healthcare division, announced the launch of Edison, a Digital Health platform for hospitals and health systems.<\/p>

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), digital technologies have the potential not only to facilitate access to health services and improve their quality, but also to reduce costs and improve health systems.<\/p>

As explained by GE Healthcare, Edison will be a data aggregation platform, a technique for collecting information from databases for the creation of datasets<\/em> for the most efficient processing of health information. It will also have an Artificial Intelligence (AI) engine.<\/p>

This new system will base its information on data from the hospital system, electronic medical records, laboratory images, genomic research, among others. Medical professionals will be able to access this data from their patients on the same platform, reducing workload and waiting times for patients.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The platform aims to enable hospitals and healthcare systems to effectively and successfully implement new clinical, workflow, analytics and AI tools. In this sense, these tools are intended to improve the provision of services and promote the use of information technologies.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Amit Phadnis, Chief Digital Officer of GE Healthcare, commented that the platform "is being designed to enable healthcare systems to have a single platform on which to host and integrate applications into clinical workflows." In this way, GE Healthcare's Digital Health platform will be able to adopt open interfaces from third-party providers and developers.<\/p>

For her part, Liz Porter, president of Leidos Health Group, a company that works with GE Healthcare, explained the following: \u201cThe platform will help reduce digital friction throughout the company and accelerate the implementation of digital solutions at scale. Seg\u00fan la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud (OMS), las tecnolog\u00edas digitales tienen el potencial no solo de facilitar el acceso a servicios de salud y mejorar su calidad, sino tambi\u00e9n de reducir costos y perfeccionar los sistemas de salud. Seg\u00fan explic\u00f3 GE Healthcare, Edison, ser\u00e1 una plataforma de agregaci\u00f3n de datos, una t\u00e9cnica para la recopilaci\u00f3n de informaci\u00f3n de bases de datos para la creaci\u00f3n de datasets para el procesamiento m\u00e1s eficiente de la informaci\u00f3n en salud. De igual forma contar\u00e1 con un motor de Inteligencia Artificial (IA). Este nuevo sistema basar\u00e1 su informaci\u00f3n en datos del sistema hospitalario, registro m\u00e9dicos electr\u00f3nicos, im\u00e1genes de laboratorio, investigaci\u00f3n gen\u00f3mica, entre otras. Los profesionales m\u00e9dicos podr\u00e1n acceder a estos datos de sus pacientes en una misma plataforma, reduciendo la carga de trabajo y los tiempos de espera para los pacientes. La plataforma tiene como objetivo permitir que hospitales y sistemas de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica, implementen de forma efectiva y exitosa nuevas herramientas cl\u00ednicas, de flujo de trabajo, de an\u00e1lisis y de IA. En este sentido, dichas herramientas tienen como prop\u00f3sito mejorar la prestaci\u00f3n de servicios y promover el uso de tecnolog\u00edas de la informaci\u00f3n.
