The app has successfully passed tests that have determined its validity.<\/p><p>N\u00e9stor Becerra Yoma, director and founder of the Voice Processing and Transmission Laboratory (LPTV) of the University of Chile, collaborated with academics from the Department of Electrical Engineering (DIE) of the same university, C\u00e9sar Azurdia, Claudio Est\u00e9vez and Sandra C\u00e9spedes, for the creation of this respiratory disease detection system. For this, he also had the support of Dr. Laura Mendoza and her pulmonology team at the Hospital Cl\u00ednico de la U. de Chile (HCUCH).<\/p><p>\u201cWith this technology we want to detect and prevent these people before they are in a critical state of respiratory distress. The next step is the accreditation by public institutions to be able to massify its use. Also, as a tool, it can give a warning sign to a patient who is suffering from pneumonia at a distance, because it can indicate a greater risk of worsening and should be evaluated in person and hospitalized, in a timely manner, &quot;he explained.<\/p><p>Likewise, one of the advantages of the application is that it represents an opportunity to care for patients remotely, especially for those who live in rural areas and\/or are older adults who have complications when traveling to clinics or hospitals.<\/p><p>For his part, Becerra explained that this tool can help improve remote clinical care and contribute to the monitoring of bronchopulmonary diseases or those related to environmental pollution.<\/p><p><strong>How does it work?<\/strong><\/p><p>Becerra explained that the app and the AI system ask the patient to pronounce some phonetics in a controlled manner. The AI technology can recognize the pronunciation of words or phrases that are not necessary for the analysis and these are eliminated through a machine learning algorithm. Durante 2021, la tecnolog\u00eda utilizada en la app fue evaluada con ensayos cl\u00ednicos y fue validada en laboratorios, demostrando resultados positivos. El siguiente paso es la acreditaci\u00f3n por parte de instituciones p\u00fablicas para poder masificar su uso. Inicialmente, el objetivo de esta herramienta fue detectar y realizar seguimientos de forma autom\u00e1tica para las personas con riesgo de contagio de COVID-19, sim embargo, la Dra. Laura Mendoza explic\u00f3 que tambi\u00e9n ser\u00eda \u00fatil para dar seguimiento a pacientes de disnea. \u201cPuede ayudar a tener un seguimiento m\u00e1s confiable de la disnea&#8230; Y tener m\u00e1s seguridad de la evoluci\u00f3n y respuesta a tratamiento de enfermedades respiratorias tanto agudas como cr\u00f3nicas. Tambi\u00e9n, como herramienta puede dar un signo de alerta a un paciente que se encuentra a distancia cursando una neumon\u00eda, porque puede indicarle un mayor riesgo de agravarse y deba ser evaluado de forma presencial y ser hospitalizado, en forma oportuna\u201d, explic\u00f3. Asimismo, una de las ventajas de la aplicaci\u00f3n es representa una oportunidad de atender a pacientes de manera remota, especialmente para aquellos que viven en zonas rurales y\/o son adultos mayores que tiene complicaciones en el traslado a cl\u00ednicas u hospitales. Por su parte, Becerra explic\u00f3 que esta herramienta pude ayudar a mejorar las atenciones cl\u00ednicas a distancia y aportar en el monitoreo de enfermedades broncopulmonares o relacionadas con la contaminaci\u00f3n ambiental. \u00bfC\u00f3mo funciona? Becerra, explic\u00f3 que la app y el sistema de IA pide que el paciente pronuncie algunas fonetizaciones de manera controlada. La tecnolog\u00eda de IA puede reconocer la pronunciaci\u00f3n de palabras o frases que no son necesaria para el an\u00e1lisis y estas son eliminadas a trav\u00e9s de un algoritmo de aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico.
