During the Mexican Congress of Cardiology, held in November 2021 in M\u00e9rida, cardiologist Diego Araiza presented an Artificial Intelligence (AI) project to detect the risk of coronary thrombosis in patients in time.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr. Diego Araiza, is a cardiologist in the Department of Coronary Care and Emergencies of the National Institute of Cardiology, and was commissioned to present this project at the congress before more than 1,800 cardiologists and specialists in person and more than 3,500 in line.<\/p>

The project uses deep neural networks and AI, which allows medical specialists to identify patterns related to coronary thrombosis, which would help prevent deaths.<\/p>

"Even the best of cardiologists is subject to the interpretation of the electrocardiogram, but with this technology that uses a specialized algorithm, it can give greater diagnostic yields of a heart attack and save the life of the patient through catheterization," explained Dr. Araiza in an interview with The Economist.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

On the other hand, the director of the technology company that supports the project, Pilar Espinosa, explained that the AI platform has been developed for years. Dr. Araiza, who is also a member of the Mexican Society of Cardiology, explained that the use of AI saves time in the execution of potentially harmful procedures, also provides access to information and does not depend on a group of highly specialized cardiologists. In this way, it could also benefit hospitals with few resources to have a group of specialists of this type.<\/p>

This platform would work to facilitate remote diagnoses or could only be used to carry out second assessments in a matter of minutes. However, the project requires the digitization of electrocardiograms, currently they have digitized more than 300.<\/p>

Similarly, Sergio March, director of new technologies at the Mexican Health Foundation, another of the organizations participating in the project, explained that: "Something we are also doing, parallel to the scientific project, is assessing the cost-benefit of use of this technology to make it clear that it is an investment that will pay off in reducing expenses related to disabilities, care costs or mortality\u201d.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Durante el Congreso Mexicano de Cardiolog\u00eda, realizado en noviembre de 2021 en M\u00e9rida, el cardi\u00f3logo Diego Araiza, present\u00f3 un proyecto de Inteligencia Artificial (IA), para detectar a tiempo en pacientes el riesgo de trombosis coronaria. El Dr. Diego Araiza, es cardi\u00f3logo en el departamento de Cuidados Coronarios y Urgencias del Instituto Nacional de Cardiolog\u00eda, y fue encargado de presentar en el congreso este proyecto ante m\u00e1s de mil 800 cardi\u00f3logos y especialistas de forma presencial y m\u00e1s de 3 mil 500 en l\u00ednea. El proyecto utiliza redes neuronales profundas e IA, que permite que los especialistas m\u00e9dicos puedan identificar patrones relacionados con trombosis coronaria, lo que ayudar\u00eda a prevenir muertes. \u201cIncluso el mejor de los cardi\u00f3logos est\u00e1 sujeto a la interpretaci\u00f3n del electrocardiograma, pero con esta tecnolog\u00eda que emplea un algoritmo especializado puede dar mayores rendimientos diagn\u00f3sticos de un infarto y salvarle la vida al paciente a trav\u00e9s de un cateterismo\u201d, explic\u00f3 el Dr. Araiza en entrevista con El Economista. Por otra parte, la directora de la compa\u00f1\u00eda tecnol\u00f3gica que apoya el proyecto, Pilar Espinosa, explic\u00f3 que la plataforma de IA se ha desarrollado durante a\u00f1os. Adem\u00e1s, explic\u00f3 la utilidad del algoritmo y c\u00f3mo ayudar\u00eda a lograr diagn\u00f3sticos ra\u00eddos que salvar\u00edan vidas: tomarle una foto, analizarlo mediante un algoritmo o un software de nuestro celular para que determine si el paciente tiene un co\u00e1gulo en el interior de sus arterias coronarias y tengamos un pronto diagn\u00f3stico con una certeza del 98%\u201d. El Dr. Araiza, quien adem\u00e1s es miembro de la Sociedad Mexicana de Cardiolog\u00eda, explic\u00f3 que el uso de IA ahorra tiempo en la ejecuci\u00f3n de procedimientos potencialmente da\u00f1inos, adem\u00e1s brinda acceso a la informaci\u00f3n y no depende de un grupo de cardi\u00f3logos de alta especialidad. De esa forma, podr\u00eda beneficiar tambi\u00e9n a hospitales con pocos recursos para contar con un grupo de especialistas de este tipo. Esta plataforma funcionar\u00eda para facilitar los diagn\u00f3sticos remotos o solamente se podr\u00eda utilizar para realizar segundas valoraciones en cuesti\u00f3n de minutos. Sin embargo, el proyecto requiere la digitalizaci\u00f3n de electrocardiogramas, actualmente han digitalizado m\u00e1s de 300. Asimismo, Sergio March, director de nuevas tecnolog\u00edas en la Fundaci\u00f3n Mexicana para la Salud, otra de las organizaciones que participa en el proyecto, explic\u00f3 que: \u201cAlgo que tambi\u00e9n estamos haciendo, paralelo al proyecto cient\u00edfico, es la valoraci\u00f3n del costo-beneficio del uso de esta tecnolog\u00eda para que quede claro que es una inversi\u00f3n que va a redituar en la disminuci\u00f3n de los gastos relacionados con las incapacidades, los costos de atenci\u00f3n o en la mortalidad\u201d.
