On the second day of activities of the Digital Health Forum of the Central American Health Informatics Network (RECAINSA), its executive director and co-founder, Daniel Otzoy, gave a keynote address on health data security in the region.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

A data is the minimum unit of information, it is from the sum of data that information and knowledge can be produced. Information systems feed on data, either physically or electronically. Digitization processes and the migration of information to a digital system have many benefits, however, the greatest challenges are related to information security and protection.<\/p>

Daniel Otzoy works as a counselor at the public health consulting firm John Snow Inc. and is also the executive director and co-founder of RECAINSA. On the second day of the Digital Health Forum 2021, he presented the master class "Security of health data in Latin America". In it, he addressed issues related to acceleration and digital transformation and cybersecurity.<\/p>

Otzoy explains that during the pandemic what happened was not a digital transformation, since that would imply a paradigm shift, but a digital acceleration process, that is, the resources available were used to produce a change that is still in progress. .<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Regarding cybersecurity, the main challenges facing the health industry are: Malware and ransomware, security breaches, internal threats, attacks and denial of services, threats to the cloud, phishing.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In Latin America there is not enough information available regarding cyberattacks in the health sector, however, studies indicate that it is the region with the third highest number of cyberattacks. However, 13 countries in the region have a national cybersecurity strategy.<\/p>

Among the best cybersecurity practices in Latin America, the Information and Communications Technology Emergency Response Centers are recommended. Uruguay has one of the best in the continent.<\/p>

Other practices include the adoption of international standards such as ISO 27001, Information Security Management System; HIPAA Compliance practices (United States Law), and Ethical hacking.<\/p>

In conclusion, Otzoy explains that it is necessary to produce more knowledge about cybersecurity in Latin America and promote the development of national strategies.<\/p>

En el segundo d\u00eda de actividades del Foro de Salud Digital de la Red Centroamericana de Inform\u00e1tica en Salud (RECAINSA), su director ejecutivo y cofundador, Daniel Otzoy, realiz\u00f3 una conferencia magistral sobre la seguridad de los datos de salud en la regi\u00f3n. Un dato es la unidad m\u00ednima de informaci\u00f3n, es a partir de la suma de datos que se puede producir la informaci\u00f3n y conocimiento. Los sistemas de informaci\u00f3n se alimentan de datos, ya sea de forma f\u00edsica o electr\u00f3nica. Los procesos de digitalizaci\u00f3n y la migraci\u00f3n de la informaci\u00f3n a un sistema digital, tiene muchos beneficios, sin embargo, los desaf\u00edos m\u00e1s grandes se relacionan con la seguridad y la protecci\u00f3n de la informaci\u00f3n. Daniel Otzoy, se desempe\u00f1a como consejero en la firma de consultor\u00eda de salud p\u00fablica John Snow Inc. y adem\u00e1s es director ejecutivo y cofundador de la RECAINSA. En el segundo d\u00eda del Foro de Salud Digital 2021, present\u00f3 la clase magistral \u201cSeguridad de los datos de salud en Am\u00e9rica Latina\u201d. En ella abord\u00f3 temas relacionados con aceleraci\u00f3n y transformaci\u00f3n digital y ciberseguridad. Otzoy explica que durante la pandemia lo que sucedi\u00f3 no fue una transformaci\u00f3n digital, ya que eso implicar\u00eda un cambio de paradigma, sino que ocurri\u00f3 un proceso de aceleraci\u00f3n digital, es decir, se utilizaron los recursos al alcance para producir un cambio que sigue en progreso. En cuanto a ciberseguridad, los principales desaf\u00edos que enfrenta la industria de la salud son: Malware y ransomware, brechas de seguridad, amenazas internas, ataques y negaci\u00f3n de servicios, amenazas a la nube, phishing. En Am\u00e9rica latina no hay suficiente informaci\u00f3n disponible referente a ciberataques en el sector salud, sin embargo, estudios indican que es la tercera regi\u00f3n con mayor cantidad de ciberataques. No obstante 13 pa\u00edses de la regi\u00f3n cuentan con una estrategia nacional de ciberseguridad. Entre las mejores pr\u00e1cticas de ciberseguridad en Am\u00e9rica Latina, se recomiendan los Centros de Respuesta a Emergencias de Tecnolog\u00eda de Informaci\u00f3n y Comunicaciones. Uruguay cuenta con uno de los mejores en el continente. Otras de las pr\u00e1cticas incluyen la adopci\u00f3n de est\u00e1ndares internacionales como ISO 27001, Sistema de gesti\u00f3n de seguridad de la informaci\u00f3n; pr\u00e1cticas de HIPAA Compliance (Ley de Estados Unidos), y Ethical hacking.
