That is why prevention and early detection is of vital importance so that patients living with diabetes do not see their quality of life affected.<\/p><p>In this way, a multidisciplinary team from the Electronic Design Laboratory of the Cinvestav Unidad Guadalajara has developed an AI model to carry out a systematic screening for diabetic retinopathy. In addition, added to the development of AI, a solution that is not only effective but innovative can be achieved to reduce people with this condition and avoid more serious effects such as blindness.<\/p><p>The Research Committee of the Jalisco Ministry of Health approved the protocol and the project will be implemented in three health centers in Jalisco, to carry out the research during the next six months.<\/p><p>In addition, for the implementation of the project they joined with the Inter-American Development Bank, the General Coordination of Government Innovation of Jalisco and the Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey Campus Jalisco. En este sentido, a trav\u00e9s de una conexi\u00f3n por telemedicina, profesionales podr\u00edan realizar una evaluaci\u00f3n de este padecimiento. Gaspar Gonz\u00e1lez Brice\u00f1o, estudiante de doctorado en el laboratorio de Dise\u00f1o Electr\u00f3nico, forma parte de este proyecto y explic\u00f3 lo siguiente sobre la importancia de la IA en la detecci\u00f3n de enfermedades: \u201cEl tamizaje sistem\u00e1tico de retinopat\u00eda diab\u00e9tica representa un beneficio en la detecci\u00f3n temprana y tratamiento oportuno de esta afecci\u00f3n ocular, y junto con la asistencia de tecnolog\u00edas como la IA y la telemedicina, han mostrado ser efectivas para la referencia oportuna del paciente a un oftalm\u00f3logo\u201d. La IA agiliza el proceso de clasificaci\u00f3n de fotograf\u00edas de fondo de ojo extra\u00eddas del tamizaje de la retinopat\u00eda, incluso alcanza un desempe\u00f1o mejor o igual al de personal m\u00e9dico capacitado. \u201cDado que las redes neuronales convolucionales muestran un buen desempe\u00f1o en reconocimiento de patrones, se ha optado por utilizar esta tecnolog\u00eda, que puede ayudar en la detecci\u00f3n temprana de la retinopat\u00eda, en combinaci\u00f3n con un buen modelo de tamizaje cl\u00ednico\u201d, explic\u00f3 Gonz\u00e1lez Brice\u00f1o. De igual forma, el doctorando, explica que la atenci\u00f3n de la retinopat\u00eda diab\u00e9tica en el primer nivel de salud debe ser un trabajo multidisciplinario que combine diversos profesionales cl\u00ednicos y t\u00e9cnicos. Adem\u00e1s, sumado al desarrollo de IA, se puede lograr una soluci\u00f3n no solo efectiva sino innovadora para disminuir a las personas con dicha condici\u00f3n y evitar afectaciones m\u00e1s graves como la ceguera. El Comit\u00e9 de Investigaci\u00f3n de la Secretar\u00eda de Salud Jalisco, aprob\u00f3 el protocolo y se implementar\u00e1 el proyecto en tres centros de salud de Jalisco, para realizar la investigaci\u00f3n durante los pr\u00f3ximos seis meses. Adem\u00e1s, para la implementaci\u00f3n del proyecto se unieron con el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, la Coordinaci\u00f3n General de Innovaci\u00f3n Gubernamental de Jalisco y el Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey Campus Jalisco.
