College London developed this VR technology, with the aim of helping patients who have difficulty with MRI scans, especially children or people who suffer from cognitive problems or conditions such as claustrophobia.<\/p><p>Through the School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences of the mentioned institution, the main researcher, Dr. Kun Qian, explained that they looked for different ways to allow children and vulnerable people not to have major problems when undergoing an still can be complicated. Some patients, especially children, require medication or sedatives in order to relax and achieve a successful scan. We thought that if we could make a system compatible with the MRI environment, it could be a very powerful alternative way to successfully scan these challenging populations.&quot;<\/p><p>In this way, the researchers developed a VR environment through a special helmet that can be used inside the MRI scanner. In this way, the patient cannot see the environment inside the camera and is exposed to immersive and continuous content to make the experience easier.<\/p><p>The purpose of this system is that the patient does not perceive the sensation of being inside the scanner and that the MRI is performed correctly. \u201cDeveloping the right content is crucial, as for the system to be effective, it needs to hold the subject\/patient&#039;s attention and sense of immersion for as long as possible. Since this content is likely to be very different based on age and cognitive abilities. Getting this right and adapting it to different clinical and study populations is the next key step,\u201d Qian explained.<\/p><p>This system opens up possibilities for vulnerable populations to have access to an MRI without the need to take drugs to sleep. Pensamos que, si pod\u00edamos hacer que un sistema fuera compatible con el entorno de la resonancia magn\u00e9tica, podr\u00eda ser una forma alternativa muy poderosa de escanear con \u00e9xito estas poblaciones desafiantes\u201d, explic\u00f3 el especialista. De esta forma, los investigadores desarrollaron un entorno de VR a trav\u00e9s de un casco especial que puede utilizarse dentro del esc\u00e1ner de resonancia magn\u00e9tica. De esta manera el paciente no puede ver el entorno dentro de la c\u00e1mara y es expuesto a contenido inmersivo y continuo para que la experiencia sea m\u00e1s sencilla. El prop\u00f3sito del este sistema es que el paciente no perciba la sensaci\u00f3n de estar dentro del esc\u00e1ner y que la resonancia magn\u00e9tica se realice de forma correcta. \u201cDesarrollar el contenido correcto es crucial, ya que para que el sistema sea efectivo, debe mantener la atenci\u00f3n del sujeto \/ paciente y su sentido de inmersi\u00f3n durante el mayor tiempo posible. Dado que es probable que este contenido sea muy diferente seg\u00fan la edad y las capacidades cognitivas.
