Chile is one of the countries in Latin America with the largest number of projects related to Digital Health. <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Chile has had important telemedicine and telehealth projects for several years, promoted by universities and government agencies such as the National Center for Health Information Systems (CENS), the Telemedicine Unit of the University of Concepci\u00f3n or the Digital Hospital.<\/p>

Erick Cortez, works as head of the ICT Management Department of the South Metropolitan Health Service of Chile, and in an interview with E-Health Reporter, he explained how Digital Health technologies have evolved in Chile.<\/p>

In the interview, the Digital Health specialist commented that in Chile important advances have been made in digital technologies within the health system. He highlighted the use of Health Information Systems (SIS) and telemedicine, promoted during the pandemic.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

He explained that there are also advances in Artificial Intelligence technologies and their application has reaped good results: \u201cfor the pre-diagnosis of diseases that are later confirmed by the specialist doctor and for the remote monitoring of patients with chronic health problems, through biometric devices, in addition to other advances in different areas and medical specialties\u201d.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

He also highlighted the importance of projects such as the Digital Hospital. Cortez explains that it is a strategy with great projection and that its implementation achieves a positive impact on the health of users. "The Digital Hospital continues to advance in different telemedicine strategies to improve access and opportunity for patient care, developing integrated models of reference and counter-reference with local networks, based on the offer of specialists it has", he commented.\u00a0<\/p>

However, the specialist recognized the lack of a long-term National Strategy for Digital Health, which is not a project for a government period, but rather has transversal support. However, he explained that the Ministry of Health is currently in the process of designing the new National Health Strategy 2021-2030.<\/p>

Digital Health during the health emergency<\/strong><\/p>

The arrival of COVID-19 modified the plans of health authorities around the world, and in Chile, they chose to work with Digital Health to provide services and solutions to the population.<\/p>

He explained one of the telemedicine projects that was launched during the pandemic: \u201cwe implemented and adapted the development of the Iquique Health Service, Monitor Esmeralda, for the comprehensive management of COVID cases, their samples and results at the level of the entire network, that is to say, of the 11 communes and the 6 hospitals with a single system which provides access to information for centralized and communal management\u201d.<\/p>

Chile es uno de los pa\u00edses de Latinoam\u00e9rica con mayor cantidad de proyectos relacionados a la Salud Digital. Chile cuenta desde hace varios a\u00f1os con importantes proyectos de telemedicina y telesalud, impulsados desde universidades y agencias de gobierno como el Centro Nacional en Sistemas de Informaci\u00f3n en Salud (CENS), la Unidad de Telemedicina de la Universidad de Concepci\u00f3n o el Hospital Digital. Erick Cortez, se desempe\u00f1a como jefe del Departamento Gesti\u00f3n TIC del Servicio de Salud Metropolitano Sur de Chile, y en entrevista con E-Health Reporter, explic\u00f3 c\u00f3mo han evolucionado las tecnolog\u00edas de Salud Digital en Chile. En la entrevista el especialista en Salud Digital, coment\u00f3 que en Chile se han conseguido importantes avances en tecnolog\u00edas digitales dentro del sistema de salud. Resalt\u00f3 el uso de los Sistemas de Informaci\u00f3n en Salud (SIS) y la telemedicina, impulsada durante la pandemia. Explic\u00f3 que tambi\u00e9n existen avances en tecnolog\u00edas de Inteligencia Artificial y su aplicaci\u00f3n ha cosechado buenos resultados: \u201cpara el prediagn\u00f3stico de enfermedades que luego son confirmadas por el m\u00e9dico especialista y para el seguimiento remoto de pacientes con problemas de salud cr\u00f3nicos, mediante dispositivos de biometr\u00edas, adem\u00e1s de otros avances en distintas \u00e1reas y especialidades m\u00e9dicas\u201d. Tambi\u00e9n destac\u00f3 la importancia de proyectos como el Hospital Digital. Cortez, explica que es una estrategia con gran proyecci\u00f3n y que su implementaci\u00f3n logra un impacto positivo en la salud de los usuarios. \u201cEl Hospital Digital sigue avanzando en diferentes estrategias de telemedicina para mejorar el acceso y oportunidad de atenci\u00f3n de los pacientes, desarrollando modelos integrados de referencia y contra referencia con las redes locales, basados en la oferta de especialistas con los que cuenta\u201d, coment\u00f3.  No obstante, el especialista reconoci\u00f3 la falta de una Estrategia Nacional de Salud Digital a largo plazo, que no sea un proyecto de un periodo de gobierno, sino que cuente con apoyo transversal. Sin embargo, explic\u00f3 que actualmente el Ministerio de Salud se encuentra en proceso de dise\u00f1o de la nueva Estrategia Nacional de Salud 2021-2030. Salud Digital durante la emergencia sanitaria La llegada del COVID-19, modific\u00f3 los planes de las autoridades de salud en todo el mundo, y en Chile, optaron por trabajar con Salud Digital para brindar servicios y soluciones a la poblaci\u00f3n. Explic\u00f3 uno de los proyectos de telemedicina que se puso en marcha durante la pandemia: “implementamos y adecuamos el desarrollo del Servicio de Salud Iquique, Monitor Esmeralda, para la gesti\u00f3n integral de casos COVID, sus muestras y resultados a nivel de toda la red, es decir de las 11 comunas y los 6 hospitales con un solo sistema el cual brinda acceso a informaci\u00f3n para gesti\u00f3n centralizada y comunal”. Por \u00faltimo, el especialista explic\u00f3 que “la Transformaci\u00f3n Digital ya no es una opci\u00f3n, es una obligaci\u00f3n”.
