During the health emergency in 2020, Argentina successfully developed several telehealth programs.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The use of digital technology and information systems in healthcare during 2020 was key to dealing with the health emergency. Argentina had a solid base in terms of telehealth and telemedicine services, thanks to the public investment in telehealth made in 2007.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Telehealth was key to continuing medical care during the pandemic in Argentina, and was also useful for the timely identification of suspected cases of COVID-19, as well as for the remote monitoring of confirmed patients with the disease.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), together with the Ministry of Health, collaborated during the pandemic; even before the health emergency, they had jointly developed the Federal Telehealth and Remote Communication Network. PAHO in this context was key to intervene in the timely launch of Telecovid, working hand in hand with systems engineers and consultants, for the development of this program.<\/p>

\"Telecovid has allowed suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients to easily arrange clinical care through the centralized platform that refers the patient to the appropriate health facility and book teleconsultations for monitoring and care,\" PAHO explains. During 2020 through the Telehealth program, were carried out 120,000 consultations thanks to the emergence of Telecovid managed to provide six times more consultations than in 2019.<\/p>

The Federal Telehealth Network, also had a significant expansion during 2020, they went from 320 institutions connected to the network to 810. In addition, primary health care facilities increased 10 times. This expansion registered a growth from 40 to 399 facilities, most of them located in rural areas.<\/p>

PAHO collaborated with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to develop an assessment tool to evaluate levels of preparedness for the implementation of a telehealth program. This study made it possible to achieve a better allocation of resources among hospitals and health facilities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Argentina desarroll\u00f3 con \u00e9xito diversos programas de telesalud durante la emergencia sanitaria en 2020. Durante el 2020, la aplicaci\u00f3n de tecnolog\u00eda digital y sistemas de informaci\u00f3n en la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica fue clave para hacer frente a la emergencia sanitaria. Argentina contaba con una base s\u00f3lida en cuanto a servicios de telesalud y telemedicina, esto gracias a la inversi\u00f3n p\u00fablica en telesalud realizada en el a\u00f1o 2007. La telesalud fue pieza clave para continuar la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica durante la pandemia en Argentina, adem\u00e1s fue \u00fatil para la identificaci\u00f3n oportuna de casos sospechosos de COVID-19, as\u00ed como para el monitoreo remoto de pacientes confirmados con la enfermedad.  La Organizaci\u00f3n Panamericana de la Salud (OPS), en conjunto con el Ministerio de Salud, colaboraron durante la pandemia, incluso antes de la emergencia sanitaria hab\u00edan desarrollado en conjunto la Red Federal de Telesalud y Comunicaci\u00f3n a Distancia. La OPS en este contexto fue clave para intervenir en el lanzamiento oportuno de Telecovid, trabajando de la mano con ingenieros en sistemas y consultores, para el desarrollo de este programa. \u201cTelecovid ha permitido a los pacientes con COVID-19 sospechosos o confirmados organizar f\u00e1cilmente la atenci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica a trav\u00e9s de la plataforma centralizada que deriva al paciente al centro de salud adecuado y reservar teleconsultas para su seguimiento y atenci\u00f3n\u201d, explica la OPS. Durante 2020 a trav\u00e9s del programa de Telesalud, fueron realizadas 120 mil consultas gracias a la aparici\u00f3n de Telecovid lograron brindar seis veces m\u00e1s consultas que en 2019. La Red Federal de Telesalud, tambi\u00e9n tuvo una expansi\u00f3n importante durante el 2020, pasaron de 320 instituciones conectadas a la red a 810. Adem\u00e1s, los establecimientos de atenci\u00f3n primaria en salud aumentaron 10 veces. Esta expansi\u00f3n registr\u00f3 un crecimiento de 40 a 399 establecimientos, la mayor\u00eda de ellos ubicados en \u00e1reas rurales. La OPS logr\u00f3 una colaboraci\u00f3n con el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), para el desarrollo de una herramienta de evaluaci\u00f3n sobre los niveles de preparaci\u00f3n para la ejecuci\u00f3n de un programa de telesalud.
