Telemedicine and telehealth services in general, have had a significant growth since the early 2000s. <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Telemedicine was institutionalized in Mexico in January 2004 thanks to the creation of the National Center of Technological Excellence in Health (CENETEC), which five years later was recognized as a collaborating center of the World Health Organization.<\/p>

However, the health services of states such as Sonora and Nuevo Le\u00f3n had been introducing teleradiology and remote medical care services since before 2010. Even the government of Nuevo Leon has registered inter-consultations in rural hospitals since 2002, as detailed in the 2010 State of Telehealth in Mexico report.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In December 2015, more than 10 years after the creation of CENETEC, the Mexican Official Standard Project PROY-NOM-036-SSA3-2015, for the regulation of remote medical care, was created. However, since before 2008, remote care was performed in 1st and 2nd level hospitals at the federal level.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

However, on April 27, 2018, the Notice of Cancellation of the Draft Mexican Official Standard PROY-NOM-036-SSA3-2015, for the regulation of remote medical care, was published.<\/p>

\"Telemedicine has been found to offer advantages in Mexico, fundamentally breaking the barrier of physical distance, allowing greater coverage, potentially greater adherence to treatments and a clear decrease in travel, stay and productivity costs\" (Dabaghi Richerand A, et al., 2012).<\/p>

In the pandemic context, telemedicine systems in Mexico have opted for synchronous rather than asynchronous care to prevent further transmission. The Government of Mexico created the mobile application COVID-19mx available in the different mobile application stores.<\/p>

For the detection of cases through this application it is possible to perform a screening test, by selecting the symptoms that have been presented in the user. States such as Chihuahua, Michoac\u00e1n, Quer\u00e9taro and Mexico City, among others, have developed mobile platforms, telephone lines and chatbots to attend to suspected cases.<\/p>

The use and adoption of telemedicine as an intended service grew exponentially in Mexico during the last 12 months. CENETEC reported that, from January to November 2020, more than 5 million actions related to the use of telemedicine were carried out in state health systems.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

La telemedicina y en general los servicios de telesalud, han tenido un importante crecimiento desde inicios de los 2000. En M\u00e9xico la telemedicina se institucionaliz\u00f3 en enero de 2004 gracias a la creaci\u00f3n del Centro Nacional de Excelencia Tecnol\u00f3gica en Salud (CENETEC), que cinco a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s fue reconocido como centro colaborador de la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud. Sin embargo, los servicios de salud de estados como Sonora y Nuevo Le\u00f3n desde antes de 2010 hab\u00edan introducido servicios de tele radiolog\u00eda y atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica a distancia. Incluso el Gobierno de Nuevo Le\u00f3n tiene registros de interconsultas en hospitales rurales desde 2002, seg\u00fan detalla el informe del estado de la Telesalud en M\u00e9xico del 2010. M\u00e1s de 10 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de la creaci\u00f3n del CENETEC, en diciembre de 2015, fue creado el Proyecto de Norma Oficial Mexicana PROY-NOM-036-SSA3-2015, para la regulaci\u00f3n de la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica a distancia. Sin embargo, desde antes del 2008 se realizaban atenci\u00f3n a distancia en hospitales de 1er y 2do nivel a nivel federal. No obstante, el 27 de abril de 2018 se public\u00f3 el Aviso de Cancelaci\u00f3n del Proyecto de Norma Oficial Mexicana PROY-NOM-036-SSA3-2015, para la regulaci\u00f3n de la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica a distancia. \u201cSe ha encontrado que la telemedicina ofrece ventajas en M\u00e9xico, fundamentalmente rompiendo la barrera de la distancia f\u00edsica, permitiendo una mayor cobertura, potencialmente un apego mayor a los tratamientos y una clara disminuci\u00f3n de los costos de viaje, estancia y productividad\u201d (Dabaghi Richerand A, et al., 2012). En el contexto de la pandemia los sistemas de telemedicina en M\u00e9xico han optado por la atenci\u00f3n sincr\u00f3nica, antes que la asincr\u00f3nica, para la prevenci\u00f3n de m\u00e1s contagios. El Gobierno de M\u00e9xico, cre\u00f3 la aplicaci\u00f3n m\u00f3vil COVID-19mx disponible en las distintas tiendas de aplicaciones m\u00f3viles. Para la detecci\u00f3n de casos a trav\u00e9s de esta aplicaci\u00f3n es posible realizar una prueba de tamizaje, al seleccionar los s\u00edntomas que se hayan presentado en el usuario. Estados como Chihuahua, Michoac\u00e1n, Quer\u00e9taro, la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico entre otros, han desarrollado plataformas m\u00f3viles, l\u00edneas telef\u00f3nicas, chatbot, para la atenci\u00f3n a casos sospechosos. El uso y adopci\u00f3n de telemedicina como un servicio de intenci\u00f3n creci\u00f3 exponencialmente en M\u00e9xico durante los \u00faltimos 12 meses. El CENETEC inform\u00f3 que, de enero a noviembre de 2020, se realizaron m\u00e1s de 5 millones de acciones relacionadas al uso de telemedicina, en los sistemas de salud estatales.
