This initiative is supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the participating countries are Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia and Suriname.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Latin America has been one of the regions of the world most affected by COVID-19, however, in countries such as Chile and Brazil, vaccination policy is progressively advancing.\nThus, in order to promote interoperable systems in times of emergency such as the current one, six countries in the region, with the support of the IDB and PAHO, have agreed to implement a common vaccination certificate.<\/p>

The project will be led by Chile's National Center for Health Information Systems (CENS), a health technology agency belonging to the University of Chile. May Chomali, executive director of CENS, explained that the purpose of the project is to \"help generate local competencies in standards and data governance that will enable the exchange of clinical healthcare information and the surveillance of epidemiological data\".<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

This initiative will focus on three main areas: interoperability and exchange of clinical health care records; interoperability and data exchange for public health surveillance; and cross-border telehealth.<\/p>

The project will receive US$850,000 in funding from the IDB and its Strategic Program for Integration Development. Jennifer Nelson, IDB digital health solutions specialist, had this to say about this proposal and the need to make investments at critical times like the present: \"Now is the time to make the important investments to better respond to this pandemic and those of the future. Covid-19, although it has brought a lot of pain, has revealed important health issues. Esta iniciativa cuenta con el respaldo del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), y la Organizaci\u00f3n Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) y los pa\u00edses que participan son Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia y Surinam. Am\u00e9rica Latina ha sido una de las regiones del mundo m\u00e1s afectadas por el COVID-19, sin embargo, en pa\u00edses como Chile y Brasil, la pol\u00edtica de vacunaci\u00f3n avanza progresivamente. De esta forma, para promover sistemas interoperables en momentos de emergencia como el actual, seis pa\u00edses de la regi\u00f3n con el apoyo del BID y la OPS han acordado la implementaci\u00f3n de un certificado com\u00fan de vacunaci\u00f3n. May Chomali, directora ejecutiva del CENS explic\u00f3 que el prop\u00f3sito del proyecto es que \u201cayude a generar competencias locales en est\u00e1ndares y gobernanza de datos que permitan el intercambio de informaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednicos asistenciales y la vigilancia de datos epidemiol\u00f3gicos\u201d. Esta iniciativa se enfocar\u00e1 en tres \u00e1reas principales: interoperabilidad e intercambio de registros cl\u00ednicos asistenciales; interoperabilidad e intercambio de datos para la vigilancia en salud p\u00fablica; y telesalud transfronteriza. El proyecto contar\u00e1 con 850 mil d\u00f3lares de financiamiento por parte del BID y su Programa Estrat\u00e9gico para el Desarrollo de Integraci\u00f3n.
