The application of telemedicine increased last year at the beginning of the pandemic despite the fact that it is a service or modality that has been applied for more than ten years. Cristina Carrillo Prado, an academic at the National School of Higher Education (ENES) Le\u00f3n, explained the obstacles faced by telemedicine and digital health services, such as the lack of connectivity and access to devices and, especially, the lack of digital literacy.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The researcher explained that, during the pandemic, teleconsultations are of particular importance for patients who have overcome COVID-19, but suffer some adverse effects. Regarding the pandemic, she also commented that it is urgent to guarantee the resources of the public and private sector to benefit the population, especially through essential health services.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Regarding telemedicine, Carrillo Prado explained that it is possible that it is associated with a depersonalization in the doctor-patient relationship, however, it is possible to establish strategies that favor both parties so that they become familiar with the technologies, always complying with the characteristics of confidentiality and encouraging patient-oriented and patient-centered healthcare. \"When the treatment is professional, with the quality and warmth that is required, telemedicine becomes highly professional, just like in-person telemedicine,\" he explained.<\/p>

One of the limitations of telemedicine that the researcher recognized is the adoption of digital technologies, since it requires planning, training and continuous improvement. In addition to having the necessary equipment and infrastructure to apply these technologies in health services.<\/p>

The researcher also referred to regulatory legislation on telemedicine and the protection of patient data. \"We, as providers in the service of public or private institutions, must consider aspects such as security, data confidentiality, privacy and legal medical issues,\" she said.<\/p>

Finally, Carrillo Prado mentioned that at UNAM they are working online, developing work on the results obtained with patients who have received remote medical care, and that the results have generally been favorable.<\/p>

On the other hand, the Center for Policy, Population and Health Research at the UNAM School of Medicine, in collaboration with the Traveler's Preventive Care Clinic, set up a COVID-19 sample collection center, which in addition to preventing contagion, is also a way of providing follow-up to those people who show positive results. La investigadora explic\u00f3 que, durante la pandemia, las teleconsultas son de mayor importancia para pacientes que superaron el COVID-19, pero sufren alguna secuela. Sobre la pandemia, tambi\u00e9n coment\u00f3 que es urgente garantizar los recursos del sector p\u00fablico y privado para que beneficien a la poblaci\u00f3n, especialmente a trav\u00e9s de los servicios de salud esenciales. Sobre la telemedicina Carrillo Prado explic\u00f3 que es posible que se asocie con una despersonalizaci\u00f3n en la relaci\u00f3n m\u00e9dico-paciente, sin embargo, es posible establecer estrategias que favorezcan a ambas partes para que se familiaricen con las tecnolog\u00edas, siempre cumpliendo con caracter\u00edsticas de confidencialidad e incentivando una atenci\u00f3n sanitaria orientada y centrada en el paciente. \u201cCuando el trato es profesional, con la calidad y calidez que se requiere, la telemedicina llega a ser sumamente profesional, como la presencial\u201d, explic\u00f3. Una de las limitantes de la telemedicina que reconoci\u00f3 la investigadora es la adopci\u00f3n de las tecnolog\u00edas digitales, ya que requiere de planificaci\u00f3n, capacitaci\u00f3n y mejora continua. Adem\u00e1s de disponer del equipo e infraestructura necesaria para aplicar dichas tecnolog\u00edas en los servicios de salud. La investigadora se refiri\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n a las legislativas regulatorias sobre telemedicina y la protecci\u00f3n de los datos de los pacientes. \u201cNosotros, como prestadores en servicio de instituciones p\u00fablicas o privadas, debemos considerar aspectos como la seguridad, confidencialidad de datos, privacidad y las cuestiones m\u00e9dicas legales\u201d, expres\u00f3. Por \u00faltimo, Carrillo Prado mencion\u00f3 que en la UNAM se encuentran trabajando en l\u00ednea, desarrollando trabajos sobre los resultados obtenidos con los pacientes que han recibido atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica a distancia, y que han sido en general resultados favorables. Por otra parte, el Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n en Pol\u00edticas, Poblaci\u00f3n y Salud de la Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM, en colaboraci\u00f3n con la Cl\u00ednica de Atenci\u00f3n Preventiva del Viajero, instalaron un centro de toma de muestra de COVID-19, que adem\u00e1s de prevenir contagios, tambi\u00e9n es una forma de proporcionar seguimiento a aquellas personas que muestren resultados positivos.
