Diabetes is a group of metabolic conditions characterized mainly by little or no insulin production in the body. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is different from type 2 diabetes mellitus because the presence of autoimmune markers that cause the destruction of the cells responsible for insulin production. It is also the most common chronic disease in the pediatric population (Maahs, West, Lawrence, Meyer-Davis, 2011).<\/p>

Medi-stats, since 2019, has developed an interactive platform to support the detection of early signs of T1D, which helps patients to identify and monitor their antibodies. \u201cT1D starts long before insulin dependency, families will be able to prepare, develop a plan for further monitoring with their doctor and hopefully avoid serious and sometimes life-threatening conditions, such as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), along with possible hospitalization that can be more common at the onset of the disease\u201d, as Medi-stats and JDRF explained.<\/p>

Through a test kit the patient will need to obtain small blood samples from the fingers and send them to JDRF's laboratory. Subsequently, the results will be uploaded to the web portal and the user will be able to consult them and receive an explanation and interpretation of the results through his or her account. Additionally, it indicates the steps to follow and the next steps on the web platform.<\/p>

Severe DKA complications can be life-threatening for the patient. That is why the application of this screening system has great benefits, such as reducing the risk of hospitalization by knowing what the first symptoms would be like and having more time in advance to establish contact with a specialist.<\/p>

Una compa\u00f1\u00eda de origen ingl\u00e9s especializada en Salud Digital desarroll\u00f3 un portal interactivo de apoyo para que pacientes y profesionales de la salud puedan detectar posibles signos tempranos de diabetes tipo 1. La diabetes es un grupo de condiciones metab\u00f3licas que se caracterizan principalmente por la poca o nula producci\u00f3n de insulina en el organismo, la diabetes mellitus tipo 1 (DM1), se distingue de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2, por la presencia de marcadores autoinmunes que provocan la destrucci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas responsables de la producci\u00f3n de insulina. Es adem\u00e1s la enfermedad cr\u00f3nica m\u00e1s com\u00fan en poblaci\u00f3n pedi\u00e1trica (Maahs, West, Lawrence, Meyer-Davis, 2011). Medi-stats, ha desarrollado desde 2019 una plataforma interactiva de apoyo para la detecci\u00f3n de signos temprano de DM1, el cual ayuda a los pacientes a identificar y monitorear sus anticuerpos. Su objetivo es buscar una cura a esta condici\u00f3n, sin embargo, se especializan tambi\u00e9n en impulsar avances que faciliten la vida de las personas con esta condici\u00f3n. “La DM1 comienza mucho antes de la dependencia de la insulina, las familias podr\u00e1n prepararse, desarrollar un plan para un mayor control con su m\u00e9dico y, con suerte, evitar afecciones graves y, a veces, potencialmente mortales, como la cetoacidosis diab\u00e9tica (CAD), junto con la posible hospitalizaci\u00f3n que puede ser m\u00e1s com\u00fan al inicio de la enfermedad”, explican Medi-stats y JDRF. A trav\u00e9s de un kit de prueba el paciente deber\u00e1 obtener peque\u00f1as muestras de sangre de los dedos y enviarlos al laboratorio de JDRF. Posteriormente los resultados ser\u00e1n cargados al portal web, el usuario a trav\u00e9s de su cuenta podr\u00e1 consultarlos y recibir una explicaci\u00f3n e interpretaci\u00f3n de los mismos. Adicionalmente indica los pasos a seguir y los siguientes pasos en la plataforma web. Las complicaciones graves de CAD pueden poner en riesgo la vida del paciente. Es por ello que la aplicaci\u00f3n de este sistema de cribado tiene grandes beneficios, como la reducci\u00f3n del riesgo de hospitalizaci\u00f3n, al conocer c\u00f3mo ser\u00edan los primeros s\u00edntomas y contar con mayor tiempo de anticipaci\u00f3n para establecer contacto con un especialista. “Los marcadores de autoanticuerpos aparecen mucho antes de los s\u00edntomas, y los estudios piloto han demostrado que la detecci\u00f3n de estos marcadores puede reducir las tasas de CAD a menudo mortal en el momento del diagn\u00f3stico, reducir las complicaciones m\u00e9dicas y mejorar potencialmente la calidad de vida de los pacientes”, explica Medi-stats.
