At the start of the health crisis and mass infections, treatment for COVID-19 was an unknown. Efforts for some time focused mainly on infection control and mitigation. Countries, usually islands, achieved good results using early surveillance, mass testing, contact tracing, and strict quarantine to name a few measures. The adoption of digital technology and its direct application in mobility and healthcare policies proved to be effective strategies: \"Digital health technology can facilitate pandemic strategy and response in ways that are difficult to achieve manually,\" say the authors of the publication.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Digital technology<\/strong> is a tool for pandemic preparedness and response. Available digital resources have been linked and integrated into surveillance and monitoring, testing, contact tracing, and quarantine tools.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

For example, tracking strategies<\/strong> (either tracking<\/em>consist of monitoring the evolution of the disease in real time, for which digital technologies have been used such as: data dashboards; migration maps; machine learning; real-time data from smartphones and wearable technology. It has been successfully applied in Asian countries such as China, Singapore, and Taiwan, in Europe such as Sweden and in America by the United States.<\/p>

On the other hand, screening for infection<\/strong>, which consists of screening the population for diseases, has been successfully applied in China, Iceland, Singapore and others. By using technology such as digital thermometers; cell phone apps; thermal cameras; Artificial Intelligence (AI) based toolkits; and web-based toolkits. However, it has some disadvantages such as poor ability to detect asymptomatic patients through self-reported symptoms or vital sign tracking.<\/p>

The Contact tracing<\/strong>and tracking is undoubtedly one of the pillars for the control of an epidemic in any region. Through GPS or location systems based on cell phone applications that detect exposure to the virus and remote monitoring applications, it is possible to identify exposed or infected persons, to subsequently apply tests and request home isolation.<\/p>

As for quarantine and self-isolation<\/strong>, Digital Health has offered some solutions. In this way, it is possible to isolate infections in the most effective way, together with policies restricting travel outside the country. This type of strategies have been applied in countries that have managed the health situation in a great way, some with greater ease because they are islands, such as Australia, Iceland, Taiwan, however, it has also been applied in countries such as China or South Korea. These countries have used AI, cameras and recorders, GPS systems, mobile apps and rapid response codes.<\/p>

The Clinical management<\/strong>has also made significant progress during the pandemic by seeking timely diagnosis of infected patients and monitoring their clinical status. Through AI, scientists have made progress in predicting the evolution of the disease. Moreover, healthcare services have integrated telemedicine and virtual care services. Successfully applied in Australia, Canada, the United States and Ireland.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Art\u00edculo publicado en The Lancet, analiza los tipos de tecnolog\u00edas utilizados en respuesta a la pandemia, as\u00ed como la preparaci\u00f3n previa y los desaf\u00edos en la implementaci\u00f3n de nuevas estrategias de Salud Digital a futuro. Al inicio de la crisis sanitaria y los contagios masivos, el tratamiento contra COVID-19 era una inc\u00f3gnita. Los esfuerzos durante un tiempo se enfocaron principalmente en el control y la mitigaci\u00f3n de contagios. Pa\u00edses, generalmente islas, obtuvieron buenos resultados al utilizar vigilancia temprana, pruebas masivas, rastreo de contactos, y cuarentena estricta por mencionar algunas medidas. La adopci\u00f3n de la tecnolog\u00eda digital y su aplicaci\u00f3n directa en las pol\u00edticas de movilidad y atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica lograron ser estrategias efectivas: \u201cLa tecnolog\u00eda de salud digital puede facilitar la estrategia y la respuesta ante una pandemia de formas que son dif\u00edciles de lograr manualmente\u201d, mencionan los autores de la publicaci\u00f3n. La tecnolog\u00eda digital es una herramienta para la preparaci\u00f3n y respuesta ante una pandemia. Los recursos digitales disponibles han sido vinculados e integrados a las herramientas de vigilancia y seguimiento, pruebas, rastreo de contactos y la cuarentena. Por ejemplo, las estrategias de seguimiento (o tracking), consisten en monitorear la evoluci\u00f3n de la enfermedad en tiempo real, para las cuales se han utilizado tecnolog\u00edas digitales como: Paneles de datos; mapas de migraci\u00f3n; aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico; datos en tiempo real de tel\u00e9fonos inteligentes y tecnolog\u00eda port\u00e1til. Ha sido aplicado con \u00e9xito en pa\u00edses asi\u00e1ticos como China, Singapur, y Taiw\u00e1n, en europeos como Suecia y en Am\u00e9rica por Estados Unidos. Por otra parte, la detecci\u00f3n de infecciones, que consiste en examinar a la poblaci\u00f3n para la detecci\u00f3n de enfermedades, ha sido aplicada con \u00e9xito en China, Islandia, Singapur entre otros. Al utilizar tecnolog\u00eda como los term\u00f3metros digitales; aplicaciones para tel\u00e9fonos m\u00f3viles; c\u00e1maras t\u00e9rmicas; kits de herramientas basados \u200b\u200ben Inteligencia Artificial (AI); y kits de herramientas basados \u200b\u200ben la web.\u00a0 Sin embargo, cuenta con algunas desventajas como la poca posibilidad de detectar pacientes asintom\u00e1ticos a trav\u00e9s de s\u00edntomas auto informados o el seguimiento de los signos vitales. El rastreo y seguimiento de contactos, es sin duda uno de los pilares para el control de una epidemia en cualquier regi\u00f3n. A trav\u00e9s de sistemas GPS o de ubicaci\u00f3n basados en aplicaciones de tel\u00e9fonos m\u00f3viles que detecta exposiciones al virus y, aplicaciones para el monitoreo remoto, es posible identificar personas expuestas o infectadas, para posteriormente aplicar pruebas y solicitar el aislamiento domiciliario. En cuanto a la cuarentena y el autoaislamiento, la Salud Digital ha ofrecido algunas soluciones. De esta forma es posible aislar las infecciones de la forma m\u00e1s eficaz, aunado a las pol\u00edticas que restringen los viajes fuera de pa\u00eds. Este tipo de estrategias han sido aplicadas en pa\u00edses que han gestionado de gran manera la situaci\u00f3n sanitaria, algunos con mayor facilidad al tratarse de islas, como Australia, Islandia, Taiw\u00e1n, sin embargo, tambi\u00e9n ha sido aplicado en pa\u00edses como China o Corea del Sur. Estos pa\u00edses han utilizado IA, c\u00e1maras y grabadoras, sistemas GPS, apps m\u00f3viles y c\u00f3digos de respuesta r\u00e1pida. La gesti\u00f3n cl\u00ednica, tambi\u00e9n ha logrado un importante avance durante la pandemia, al buscar el diagn\u00f3stico oportuno de pacientes infectados y monitorear su estado cl\u00ednico. A trav\u00e9s de IA, cient\u00edficos han logrado avances para predecir la evoluci\u00f3n de la enfermedad.
