They used health data from the Ontario health system in Canada to create the model. For this study, an adverse outcome is defined as at least one hospitalization or ambulatory usage associated with any diabetes complication during the target prediction window,\u201d the authors explained in the article.<\/p><p>This prediction model was not performed with electronic clinical record data, but from administrative health data (AHD) sources, such as demographics, hospitalizations, physician visits, laboratory tests. \u201cThe final model has over 700 features from a variety of datasets such as demographics, census information, laboratory results, diagnosis history, physician billing claims, hospitalization and ambulatory usage, prescription medication history and others,\u201d they explained.<\/p><p>\u201cThe proposed model was developed and tested on a large cohort of over 1.5 million patients with minimal exclusion criteria, capturing virtually all incidences of target adverse outcomes,\u201d they further explained that the cohort is ethnically diverse to achieve broader representation from all regions of the world. El control de la hiperglucemia y la hipertensi\u00f3n, as\u00ed como dejar de fumar, son algunas de las formas de evitar complicaciones en pacientes con diabetes. Sin embargo, los factores socioecon\u00f3micos de los pacientes, as\u00ed como los modelos de seguridad social y servicios de salud universal, pueden llegar a impedir la prevenci\u00f3n de complicaciones a nivel masivo. El modelo desarrollado predice el riesgo de resultados adversos a tres a\u00f1os, a trav\u00e9s de complicaciones como hiper e hipoglucemia, infecci\u00f3n tisular, retinopat\u00eda, amputaciones y eventos cardiovasculares. \u201cNuestro objetivo es predecir con tres a\u00f1os de anticipaci\u00f3n si un paciente diagnosticado con diabetes experimentar\u00e1 una visita de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica debido a un resultado adverso debido a una complicaci\u00f3n de la diabetes dentro de una ventana de predicci\u00f3n objetivo de tres meses.&nbsp;Para este estudio, un resultado adverso se define como al menos una hospitalizaci\u00f3n o uso ambulatorio asociado con cualquier complicaci\u00f3n de la diabetes durante la ventana de predicci\u00f3n objetivo\u201d, explica el art\u00edculo.
