Specialists from the American Medical Association, published in the journal Nature an analysis on the integration of Digital Health tools into clinical practice during and after the pandemic.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The COVID-19 pandemic and preventive health measures boosted digital transformation in many ways, education, commerce, information and entertainment consumption and of course healthcare. Digital Health services, including telemedicine, remote monitoring, among others, have stood out during the health emergency.<\/p>

In 2016 American Medical Association (AMA), integrated Digital Health solutions into clinical practice, taking advantage of telehealth and telemedicine, the AMA found tools that could improve efficiency and safety in healthcare services. Even before the COVID-19 outbreak, in 2019 the AMA, conducted a study on technology adoption by medical professionals, which showed an increase in telehealth and telemedicine use of 28% over 2016.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

However, the real growth happened during the pandemic. According to a Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation report released in July 2020 showed that 43.5% of fee-for-service primary care visits in Medicare conducted in April of that year were provided via telehealth when in February the figure was 0.1%.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cTelehealth allows patients, especially those particularly vulnerable to SARS-CoV-19 complications, to access care safely. But the increase in telehealth visits and access to virtual services has not been without its challenges,\u201d he authors explain as one in three households in the United States, do not have access to computers and more than half do not have a smartphone. The biggest challenge of digital transformation and the implementation of digital health solutions in medical services is digital literacy, since even with access to a computer, not everyone knows how to use it properly.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cWhile patients have noted positive factors associated with telehealth such as improved patient\u2013clinician communication, and improved self-management, they have also identified barriers that hindered their adoption of solutions including lack of validation, inability to use the technology, and lack of technical support,\u201d indica la publicaci\u00f3n.\u00a0<\/p>

However, not all challenges to the adoption of healthcare technologies relate to the patient; the physician perspective is just as relevant. \u201cWith lessons learned from the lack of physician input in the development of these technologies and the resulting frustrations that have followed, it is critically important that a diverse group of industry, clinical, and technology partners continue to collaborate to integrate physician perspective to develop and scale the adoption of telehealth solutions that benefit both patients and clinicians,\u201d the authors explain in Integrating the physician perspective in telehealth technology.<\/p>

The use of digital health tools must be guaranteed even after the pandemic, creating and adopting laws and regulations that promote privacy and security in this type of services and, above all, that they are equitably accessible, especially for rural or underserved populations, not only in the United States, but also at the regional and international scale.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Especialistas de la Asociaci\u00f3n M\u00e9dica Estadounidense, publicaron en la revista Nature un an\u00e1lisis sobre la integraci\u00f3n de las herramientas de Salud Digital en la pr\u00e1ctica cl\u00ednica durante y despu\u00e9s de la pandemia. La pandemia por COVID-19 y las medidas sanitarias de prevenci\u00f3n impulsaron la transformaci\u00f3n digital en muchos sentidos: la educaci\u00f3n, el comercio, el consumo de informaci\u00f3n y entretenimiento y por supuesto la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica. Los servicios de Salud Digital, que incluyen la telemedicina, el monitoreo remoto, entre otros, han destacado durante la emergencia sanitaria. En 2016 la Asociaci\u00f3n M\u00e9dica Estadounidense (AMA), integr\u00f3 soluciones de Salud Digital a la pr\u00e1ctica cl\u00ednica, sacando provecho de la telesalud y telemedicina, la AMA encontr\u00f3 herramientas que pod\u00edan mejorar la eficiencia y la seguridad en los servicios de salud. Incluso antes del brote de COVID-19, en 2019 la Asociaci\u00f3n M\u00e9dica Estadounidense (AMA), realiz\u00f3 un estudio sobre la adopci\u00f3n de tecnolog\u00edas por parte de los profesionales m\u00e9dicos, el cual mostr\u00f3 un aumento en el uso de telesalud y telemedicina del 28% con respecto al 2016. Sin embargo, el verdadero crecimiento sucedi\u00f3 durante la pandemia. Seg\u00fan un informe de Planificaci\u00f3n y Evaluaci\u00f3n de Salud y Servicios Humanos publicado en julio de 2020 mostr\u00f3 que el 43.5% de las visitas de atenci\u00f3n primaria de pago por servicio en Medicare, realizadas en abril de ese a\u00f1o se proporcionaron a trav\u00e9s de telesalud cuando en febrero la cifra era de 0,1%. \u201cLa telesalud permite que los pacientes, especialmente aquellos particularmente vulnerables a las complicaciones del SARS-CoV-19, accedan a la atenci\u00f3n de forma segura. Pero el aumento de las visitas de telesalud y el acceso a servicios virtuales no ha estado exento de desaf\u00edos\u201d, explican los autores ya que uno de cada tres hogares en estados Unidos, no tienen acceso a computadoras y m\u00e1s de la mitad no cuentan con un tel\u00e9fono inteligente. El mayor reto de la transformaci\u00f3n digital y la implementaci\u00f3n de soluciones de Salud Digital en los servicios m\u00e9dicos, es la alfabetizaci\u00f3n digital, ya que incluso teniendo acceso a una computadora no todas las personas saben c\u00f3mo utilizarla correctamente.  \u201cLos pacientes han notado factores positivos asociados con la telesalud, como una mejor comunicaci\u00f3n entre el m\u00e9dico y el paciente y una mejor autogesti\u00f3n, tambi\u00e9n han identificado barreras que obstaculizaron la adopci\u00f3n de soluciones, incluida la falta de validaci\u00f3n, la imposibilidad de utilizar la tecnolog\u00eda y la falta de soporte t\u00e9cnico\u201d, indica la publicaci\u00f3n.  Sin embargo, no todos los retos para la adopci\u00f3n de las tecnolog\u00edas en salud se relacionan al paciente, la perspectiva de los m\u00e9dicos es igual de relevante. \u201cCon las lecciones aprendidas de la falta de aportes m\u00e9dicos en el desarrollo de estas tecnolog\u00edas y las frustraciones resultantes que han seguido, es de vital importancia que un grupo diverso de socios industriales, cl\u00ednicos y tecnol\u00f3gicos contin\u00faen colaborando para integrar la perspectiva del m\u00e9dico para desarrollar y escalar la adopci\u00f3n de soluciones de telesalud que beneficien tanto a los pacientes como a los m\u00e9dicos\u201d, explican los autores en el apartado: Integrando la perspectiva del m\u00e9dico en la tecnolog\u00eda de telesalud. El uso de herramientas digitales para la salud, se debe garantizar aun despu\u00e9s de la pandemia, creando y adoptando leyes y reglamentos que promuevan la privacidad y seguridad en este tipo de servicios y sobre todo que sean de acceso equitativo, especialmente para poblaciones rurales o desatendidas, no solamente en Estados Unidos, sino a nivel regional y global.
