In the more than 2,300 establishments that are part of the National Telehealth Network, a total of 14,013,689 services were offered through telemedicine in different medical specialties.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Telemedicine services and health professionals in Peru achieved the great number of more than 14 million care in 2020, the year in which the use of technologies for remote medical care was most promoted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This prompted the drafting of laws and decrees for the use of telemedicine and telehealth throughout the country.<\/p>

The regions of Lima and its metropolitan area, Ancash, Jun\u00edn, Arequipa, Piura and Callado, were the ones that carried out the greatest number of remote care services through different modalities, such as teleconsultations, tele-interconsultations, tele-guidance and tele-monitoring. The more than 14 million services offered during 2020 correspond to the 2,396 health centers that are within the National Telehealth Network, to which nearly 400 establishments were added during the year.<\/p>

The Ministry of Health (Minsa), recognized the importance of the approval of Legislative Decree No.1490, published on March 11, 2020, which was key to promoting the adoption of these types of services and increasing their scope at the national level. Through the decree, teleconsultation was validated, which facilitated the possibility for patients to receive diagnosis and treatment indications by digital means through cell phones or computers.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Another key to understanding the success of these services in Peru during 2020 was the implementation of the Teleatiendo program, which made available to the population a healthcare information tool, in which patients recorded their data and the reason for their consultation and then received a phone call from a professional. This service was extremely important in order to channel suspected cases of COVID-19 from the onset of the first symptoms.<\/p>

Teleatiendo received more than 820,000 requests for care throughout the country. Consultations about COVID-19, oral health, hypertension, family planning, psychological counseling and vaccines were the most requested topics in the calls for attention.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In addition, the Peruvian government developed the Telehealth <\/a>platform in which they describe in detail each of the types of remote care offered by the public health system and how to apply for it.<\/p>

Several hospitals began to implement virtual prescriptions for chronic patients, according to the Minsa: \"the Arzobispo Loayza Hospital, for example, received more than 97,000 calls during the health emergency and delivered virtual prescriptions to chronic patients by the doctors in charge.<\/p>

The Minsa also recognized the importance of mental health services, which after the distancing measures had to offer some of their services at a distance, such as the National Institute of Mental Health (INSM): \"Currently, a total of 51 psychiatrists from the institute connect daily from their homes to attend to patients, many of them from distant areas of the country and bringing family members together to establish a closer and more communal bond\".<\/p>

Finally, the Minister of Health, Pilar Mazzetti, reported that currently 40% of the operating staff works remotely offering telemedicine and teleconsultation services, either by comorbidity or age. In addition, she said that tele-health and telemedicine services will continue in 2021 and will seek to strengthen them especially in the face of a new wave of COVID-19 infections.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

En los m\u00e1s de 2 mil 300 establecimientos que forman parte de la Red Nacional de Telesalud, se ofrecieron un total de 14 millones 13 mil 689 atenciones a trav\u00e9s de telemedicina en distintas especialidades m\u00e9dicas. Los servicios de telemedicina y los profesionales de la salud en Per\u00fa, lograron la gran cifra de m\u00e1s de 14 millones de atenciones durante el 2020, a\u00f1o en el que m\u00e1s se promovi\u00f3 el uso de tecnolog\u00edas para la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica remota debido a la pandemia por COVID-19. Lo que impuls\u00f3 la redacci\u00f3n de leyes y decretos para el uso de telemedicina y telesalud en todo el pa\u00eds. Las regiones de Lima y su \u00e1rea metropolitana, Ancash, Jun\u00edn, Arequipa, Piura y Callado, fueron las que realizaron mayor n\u00famero de atenciones remotas mediante diferentes modalidades en sus servicios, como teleconsultas, tele interconsultas, tele orientaci\u00f3n y tele monitoreo.  Los mas de 14 millones de servicios ofrecidos durante el 2020, corresponden a los 2 mil 396    centros de salud que se encuentran dentro de la Red Nacional de Telesalud, a la cual durante el a\u00f1o se sumaron cerca de 400 establecimientos. El Ministerio de Salud (Minsa), reconoci\u00f3 la importancia de la aprobaci\u00f3n del Decreto Legislativo No.1490, publicado el 11 de marzo de 2020, el cual fue clave para promover la adopci\u00f3n de este tipo de servicios e incrementar su alcance a nivel nacional. Mediante el decreto se valid\u00f3 la teleconsulta, lo que facilit\u00f3 la posibilidad de que los pacientes recibieran diagn\u00f3stico e indicaciones de tratamiento mediante medios digitales a trav\u00e9s de tel\u00e9fonos m\u00f3viles o computadoras. Otras de las claves para entender el \u00e9xito de estos servicios en Per\u00fa durante el 2020, fue la implementaci\u00f3n del programa Teleatiendo, que puso a disposici\u00f3n de la poblaci\u00f3n una herramienta de informaci\u00f3n asistencial, en la que los pacientes registraban sus datos y el motivo de su consulta para posteriormente recibir una llamada telef\u00f3nica de un profesional. Servicio que fue sumamente importante para canalizar los casos sospechosos de COVID-19 desde el inicio de los primeros s\u00edntomas. Teleatiendo recibi\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 820 mil solicitudes de atenci\u00f3n en todo el pa\u00eds. Consultas sobre COVID-19, salud bucal, hipertensi\u00f3n, planificaci\u00f3n familiar, orientaci\u00f3n psicol\u00f3gica y vacunas fueron los t\u00f3picos m\u00e1s solicitados en las llamadas de atenci\u00f3n. Adem\u00e1s, el gobierno peruano desarroll\u00f3 la plataforma Telesalud en la cual describen detalladamente cada uno de los tipos de atenci\u00f3n remota que ofrecen el sistema de salud p\u00fablico y c\u00f3mo solicitarlo. Diversos hospitales, comenzaron a implementar las recetas m\u00e9dicas virtuales para pacientes cr\u00f3nicos, seg\u00fan inform\u00f3 el Minsa: \u201cel Hospital Arzobispo Loayza, por ejemplo, recibi\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 97 000 llamadas durante la emergencia sanitaria y entreg\u00f3 recetas virtuales a pacientes cr\u00f3nicos por parte de los m\u00e9dicos a cargo\u201d. El Minsa tambi\u00e9n reconoci\u00f3 la importancia de los servicios de salud mental, que tras las medidas de distanciamiento tuvieron que ofrecer algunos de sus servicios a distancia, como el Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental (INSM): \u201cActualmente, un total de 51 m\u00e9dicos psiquiatras del instituto se conectan a diario desde sus hogares para atender a los pacientes, muchos de ellos de zonas alejadas del pa\u00eds y congregando a los familiares para entablar un v\u00ednculo m\u00e1s cercano y comunitario\u201d. Por \u00faltimo, la ministra de salud, Pilar Mazzetti, inform\u00f3 que actualmente 40% del personal operativo trabaja de forma remota ofreciendo servicios de telemedicina y teleconsultas, ya sea por comorbilidad o por edad. Adem\u00e1s, adelant\u00f3 que los servicios de telesalud y telemedicina continuar\u00e1n en 2021 y buscar\u00e1n su fortalecimiento especialmente ante una nueva ola de contagios de COVID-19.
