One of the programs DeepMind has developed is AlphaFold, this project was described as \u201cthe culmination of several years of work, and builds on decades of prior research using large genomic datasets to predict protein structure.\u201d The shape of proteins determines their function, which is why this discovery is a big step for the development of science in today's times. These forms largely achieve the three-dimensional shape of protein structure.<\/p><p>The first findings were described in the articles published in the scientific journals Natura and PROTEINS, published in January 2020 and October 2019, respectively. Both studies indicated that the 3D models developed by AlphaFold were more accurate than any other generated years ago. \u201cWhat any given protein can do depends on its unique 3D structure. For example, antibody proteins utilised by our immune systems are \u2018Y-shaped\u2019, and form unique hooks. Demis Hassabis, who founded DeepMind in 2010 and now serves as CEO mentioned the following about this scientific breakthrough: \u201cIt marks an exciting moment for the field. These algorithms are now becoming mature enough and powerful enough to be applicable to really challenging scientific problems.\u201d<\/p><p>Scientists have described this discovery as a turning point, which will change not only medicine but research in bioengineering. The scientific community hopes this finding can help in researching more proteins and the potential development of new drugs.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>AlphaFold's project participated in the <em>Critical Assessment of Protein Structure<\/em> <em>Prediction<\/em> or CAPS, an event held every two years where specialized protein projects are exposed and competed with each other. Gracias a la IA, fue posible realizar ensayos de prueba y error, lo que permiti\u00f3 acortar el tiempo de la investigaci\u00f3n y por supuesto reducir costos.&nbsp; Las prote\u00ednas se componen de secuencias de amino\u00e1cidos unidas entre s\u00ed, de esta forma los amino\u00e1cidos interact\u00faan para lograr las formas de hoja plegada o h\u00e9lice alfa. Estas formas en gran cantidad logran la forma tridimensional de la estructura de las prote\u00ednas. Los primeros hallazgos fueron descritos en los art\u00edculos publicados en las revistas cient\u00edficas Natura y PROTEINS, publicados en enero de 2020 y octubre de 2019, respectivamente. Ambos estudios indicaban que los modelos 3D desarrollados por AlphaFold eran m\u00e1s precisos que cualquier otro generado a\u00f1os atr\u00e1s. \u201cLo que cualquier prote\u00edna puede hacer depende de su estructura tridimensional \u00fanica. Por ejemplo, las prote\u00ednas de anticuerpos utilizadas por nuestro sistema inmunol\u00f3gico tienen forma de &#8220;Y&#8221;, y forman ganchos \u00fanicos. Al adherirse a los virus y las bacterias, estas prote\u00ednas de anticuerpos son capaces de detectar y etiquetar enfermedades, causando la eliminaci\u00f3n de microorganismos\u201d explican en su sitio oficial. De esta forma, los desarrollos de AlphaFold podr\u00e1n utilizarse para la creaci\u00f3n y desarrollo de nuevos f\u00e1rmacos para el tratamiento de diversas enfermedades.
