The Clinical Hospital San Borja Arriar\u00e1n, has implemented telemedicine services through a permanent unit that will offer remote care in more than 30 specialties.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Hospital, located in Chile's Santiago Metropolitan Region, opened the telemedicine unit in November. The unit aims to continue providing medical care during the pandemic to patients who do not require in-person attendance at the health center. Through telemedicine they seek to remotely care for patients who are on the waiting list for their medical appointments. The hospital in the statement reported that the plan is for telemedicine services to be maintained beyond the pandemic situation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In the face of the pandemic the Hospital San Borja Arriar\u00e1n, began to provide remote care in May to chronic patients of the gastroenterology service, leaving good results. So, they are now looking to expand these kinds of remote care and assistance services thanks to the new telemedicine unit. <\/p>

Jorge Wilhelm director of the hospital, explained that \u201cthe implementation of this Telemedicine Unit is a benefit for our users, since in this way we can bring medical care to them. Initially the unit will have specialties in neurosurgery, infantile endocrinology and a palliative oncology unit. However, by the end of January more than 30 specialties are expected to be in use.<\/p>

Nurse Katherine Vasquez, who serves as coordinator of the Telemedicine Unit, noted that the unit aims to \"reduce the access and opportunity to care gaps for our patients. All of this is mainly due to what generated the Covid-19 pandemic.\" In addition, he emphasized that the population should not lose care by health services even if the pandemic is still ongoing.<\/p>

The head of the Palliative Care Unit, Maite Uriarte, highlighted the benefits telemedicine services offer to remote locations. \u201cFor our work it has been very useful because we have patients who are from the Maip\u00fa-Cerrillos pole who have to travel long distances to come to the hospital, many in collective locomotion that in times of pandemic implies greater risk of contagion. Our patients, in addition to being away, many have reduced mobility. El Hospital Cl\u00ednico San Borja Arriar\u00e1n, ha implementado servicios de telemedicina a trav\u00e9s de una unidad permanente que ofrecer\u00e1 atenci\u00f3n a distancia en m\u00e1s de 30 especialidades. El Hospital ubicado en la Regi\u00f3n metropolitana de Santiago en Chile, inaugur\u00f3 en noviembre la unidad de telemedicina. A trav\u00e9s de la telemedicina buscan atender de forma remota a los pacientes que est\u00e9n en lista de espera para sus citas m\u00e9dicas. El hospital en el comunicado inform\u00f3 que el plan es que los servicios de telemedicina se mantengan m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la situaci\u00f3n de la pandemia. Ante la pandemia el Hospital San Borja Arriar\u00e1n, comenz\u00f3 a brindar atenci\u00f3n remota el mes de mayo a pacientes cr\u00f3nicos del servicio de gastroenterolog\u00eda, dejando buenos resultados. Por lo que ahora buscan ampliar esta clase de servicios de asistencia y atenci\u00f3n a distancia gracias a la nueva unidad de telemedicina. Jorge Wilhelm director del hospital, explic\u00f3 que \u201cla implementaci\u00f3n de esta Unidad de Telemedicina es un beneficio para nuestros usuarios, ya que de esta manera podemos acercar las atenciones m\u00e9dicas hacia ellos. Los primeros meses de la pandemia provocaron la suspensi\u00f3n de muchas atenciones y hoy, nuestro desaf\u00edo, es responderles a todas las personas que esperan una atenci\u00f3n de especialidad\u201d. Inicialmente la unidad contar\u00e1 con especialidades en neurocirug\u00eda, endocrinolog\u00eda infantil y una unidad de oncolog\u00eda paliativa. Sin embargo, para finales de enero se espera que se encuentren funcionando m\u00e1s de 30 especialidades. La enfermera Katherine V\u00e1squez, quien se desempe\u00f1a como coordinadora de la Unidad de Telemedicina, se\u00f1al\u00f3 que la unidad tiene como objetivo \u201cdisminuir las brechas de acceso y oportunidad de atenci\u00f3n de nuestros pacientes. Todo esto se debe principalmente a lo que gener\u00f3 la pandemia del Covid-19\u201d. Adem\u00e1s, hizo \u00e9nfasis en que la poblaci\u00f3n no debe perder las atenciones por parte de los servicios de salud aun cuando la pandemia siga en curso. La jefa de la Unidad de Cuidados Paliativos, Maite Uriarte, destac\u00f3 los beneficios que los servicios de telemedicina ofrecen a las localidades remotas. \u201cPara nuestro trabajo ha sido muy beneficioso porque tenemos pacientes que son del polo Maip\u00fa-Cerrillos que tienen que desplazarse largas distancias para venir al hospital, muchos en locomoci\u00f3n colectiva que en \u00e9poca de pandemia implica mayor riesgo de contagio. Nuestros pacientes adem\u00e1s de estar lejos, muchos tienen movilidad reducida. Esto permite al paciente que desde su domicilio podamos atenderlo, verlo y tener un mayor contacto\u201d.
