Researchers from the UNLP Faculty of Engineering conducted a remote monitoring test in intensive care units (ICU). The ULP authorities reported that the telemedicine system project showed very encouraging results, completing more than a thousand hours of monitoring in ICU patients, which allowed them to be stabilized metabolically.<\/p>

The system consists of a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), a smartphone and a web server. Measurements taken by the CGM are sent via the mobile phone's WiFi connection. This data is then uploaded over a 4G mobile network or WiFi to web servers, allowing patients and specialists to access this data from mobile devices or computers.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cGMOs have recently been approved for use in hospitalized patients in the context of the pandemic, so the system developed by UNLP engineers is one of the first experiences worldwide in remote monitoring of critical patients,\u201d the university said in a statement.<\/p>

Fabricio Garelli, project manager, explained that the first stage of development is surpassed, as is the validation of the monitoring platform \u201cwhich has become a relevant care tool for the treatment of patients with diabetes or hyperglycemia in COVID-19 ICU\u201d.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The platform was used in intensive care units of the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires and Garrahan Hospital. \u201cIn all cases the use of the platform allowed metabolic stabilization of treated patients. It also made important conclusions about the effects of SARS-CoV-2 virus on patients, and the adoption of a new protocol for the treatment of hyperglycemia in critical patients,\u201d Garelli explained.<\/p>

El sistema fue dise\u00f1ado por investigadores de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP) y funciona para el monitoreo continuo de la glucosa del paciente, posteriormente estos datos son enviados al tel\u00e9fono m\u00f3vil del paciente y a un servidor web. Investigadores de la Facultad de Ingenier\u00eda de la UNLP realiz\u00f3 una prueba de monitoreo remoto en unidades de cuidados intensivos (UCI). Las autoridades la ULP informaron que el proyecto de este sistema de telemedicina mostr\u00f3 resultados muy alentadores, al completar m\u00e1s de mil horas de monitoreo en pacientes de UCI, lo que permiti\u00f3 estabilizarlos metab\u00f3licamente. El sistema est\u00e1 conformado por un monitor continuo de glucosa (CGM), un tel\u00e9fono inteligente y un servidor web. Las mediciones tomadas por el CGM son enviadas de manera a trav\u00e9s de la conexi\u00f3n WiFi del tel\u00e9fono m\u00f3vil. Posteriormente estos datos son cargados a trav\u00e9s de red m\u00f3vil 4G o WiFi a los servidores web, lo que permite que los pacientes y los especialistas accedan a estos datos desde dispositivos m\u00f3viles o computadoras. \u201cLos CGM han sido recientemente aprobados para su utilizaci\u00f3n en pacientes hospitalizados en el contexto de la pandemia, por lo que el sistema desarrollado por los ingenieros de la UNLP constituye una de las primeras experiencias a nivel mundial en el monitoreo remoto de pacientes cr\u00edticos\u201d, explic\u00f3 en comunicado la universidad. Fabricio Garelli, director del proyecto, explic\u00f3 que la primera etapa de desarrollo se encuentra superada, de igual forma la validaci\u00f3n de la plataforma de monitoreo \u201cla cual se ha transformado en una herramienta asistencial relevante para el tratamiento de pacientes con diabetes o hipergluc\u00e9micos en UCI COVID-19\u201d. La plataforma fue utilizada en unidades de terapia intensiva del Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires y del Hospital Garrahan. \u201cEn todos los casos el uso de la plataforma permiti\u00f3 estabilizar metab\u00f3licamente a los pacientes tratados.
