Telemedicine arrived in Santa Clara, a municipality that is located more than six hours from Manizales, capital of the department of Caldas. Through satellite technology internet services were enabled for the development of telemedicine in the region. <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In Caldas, one of Colombia's 32 departments, telemedicine services have begun to be implemented in rural areas, where until recently it was difficult to gain access to the internet. Thanks to satellite technology, telemedicine services will connect patients in remote areas with specialist physicians.<\/p>

One of the communities benefited is Santa Clara, from the municipality of Marulanda, in this town, the transfers of its inhabitants were the only option to access medical services. This project was made possible by Telesalud of the University of Caldas, and it was the professionals of this university who installed the necessary tools for the exercise of telemedicine.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\"We managed to care for older adults who had been waiting for attention for more than a year or who are afraid to travel to Manizales to be cared for by a professional. This is a great achievement, because they never expected a type of service to get there, where there is no cell phone signal and much less internet,\u201d said Esteban Granada, director of Telehealth.<\/p>

The director of Telesalud, acknowledged that these months during the pandemic, have made rapid progress in telemedicine infrastructure: \u201cWe achieved what would have taken between 10 and 12 years. The country had already been making progress on this, but in Caldas there were many challenges that we began to overcome thanks to the interest and support of different entities, including the Governorate of Caldas,\u201d Granada argued.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The official explained that satellite technology has a stable and quality internet connection, so specialist physicians will be able to provide an appropriate diagnostic service to patients. The attentions will be conducted by a general doctor in the area, who through the technological tools will connect with the specialist.<\/p>

Currently, Telesalud of the University of Caldas has provided free medical care to more than 180,000 people within the department of Caldas, both in urban areas such as Manizales, as well as in rural areas.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

La telemedicina lleg\u00f3 a Santa Clara, municipio que se encuentra a m\u00e1s de seis horas de Manizales, capital del departamento de Caldas. A trav\u00e9s de tecnolog\u00eda satelital fueron habilitados servicios de internet para el desarrollo de la telemedicina en la regi\u00f3n. En Caldas, uno de los 32 departamentos de Colombia, se han comenzado a implementar servicios de telemedicina en zonas rurales, donde hasta hace poco era dif\u00edcil obtener acceso a internet. Gracias a tecnolog\u00eda satelital, los servicios de telemedicina conectar\u00e1n a los pacientes de zonas remotas con m\u00e9dicos especialistas. Una de las comunidades beneficiadas es Santa Clara, del municipio de Marulanda, en esta localidad, los traslados de sus habitantes eran la \u00fanica opci\u00f3n para acceder a servicios m\u00e9dicos.\u00a0 Este proyecto fue posible gracias a Telesalud de la Universidad de Caldas, y fueron los profesionales de esta universidad quienes instalaron las herramientas necesarias para el ejercicio de la telemedicina. \u201cLogramos atender a adultos mayores que llevaban m\u00e1s de un a\u00f1o esperando por atenci\u00f3n o que tienen miedo de viajar hasta Manizales para ser atendidos por un profesional. Esto es un gran logro, porque nunca esperaban que un tipo de servicio llegara hasta all\u00e1, donde no hay se\u00f1al de celular y mucho menos internet\u201d, coment\u00f3 Esteban Granada, director de Telesalud. El director de Telesalud, reconoci\u00f3 que estos meses durante la pandemia, han avanzado r\u00e1pidamente en infraestructura para telemedicina: “logramos lo que hubi\u00e9semos tardado entre 10 y 12 a\u00f1os. El pa\u00eds ya hab\u00eda venido avanzando en esto, pero en Caldas hab\u00eda muchos retos que empezamos a superar gracias al inter\u00e9s y el apoyo de diferentes entidades, entre ellas la Gobernaci\u00f3n de Caldas\u201d, sostuvo Granada. El funcionario explic\u00f3 que la tecnolog\u00eda satelital cuenta con conexi\u00f3n a internet estable y de calidad, por lo que los m\u00e9dicos especialistas podr\u00e1n brindar un servicio de diagn\u00f3stico apropiado a los pacientes. Las atenciones ser\u00e1n conducidas por un m\u00e9dico general en la zona, quien a trav\u00e9s de las herramientas tecnol\u00f3gicas se conectar\u00e1 con el especialista.
