The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Wikimedia Foundation agreed to collaborate for access to reliable and up-to-date information on COVID-19 and the pandemic in general.<\/p>

This collaboration seeks to give people access to truthful information about what is happening in their countries, the agreement between these two agencies will promote the dissemination of open public health information through Creative Commons and ShareALike. That is, Internet users will be free to consult and share available information, including: videos, infographics and other relevant public health resources that are published through Wikimedia Commons, the digital library of rights-free materials and ready for disclosure.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Currently the Wikimedia Foundation digital library on COVID-19, has more than 5 thousand articles in 175 languages. that have been this was made possible by the contribution of about 88,000 volunteer editors. In addition, it should be noted that the total number of accesses to all available articles is more than 500 million visits., with the highest number of visits to these articles being recorded in March, when WHO classified COVID-19 as a pandemic.<\/p>

For his part, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, explained: \u201cEquitable access to trusted health information is critical to keeping people safe and informed during the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Katherine Maher highlighted how important it is for the population to have reliable information these days: \u201cAccess to information is essential to healthy communities and should be treated as such. This becomes even more clear in times of global health crises when information can have life-changing consequences. All institutions, from governments to international health agencies, scientific bodies to Wikipedia, must do our part to ensure everyone has equitable and trusted access to knowledge about public health, regardless of where you live or the language you speak.\u201d<\/p>

La OMS proporcionara recursos gr\u00e1ficos e informativos a la biblioteca de Wikimedia, la organizaci\u00f3n encargada de administrar Wikipedia. Es decir, los usuarios de internet ser\u00e1n libre de consultar y compartir la informaci\u00f3n disponible, que incluye: videos, infograf\u00edas y otros recursos relevantes sobre salud p\u00fablica que son publicados a trav\u00e9s de Wikimedia Commons, la biblioteca digital de materiales libre de derechos y listas para su divulgaci\u00f3n. Actualmente la biblioteca digital de Fundaci\u00f3n Wikimedia sobre COVID-19, cuenta con m\u00e1s de 5 mil art\u00edculos en 175 idiomas. que han sido esto fue posible gracias a la contribuci\u00f3n de cerca de 88 mil editores voluntarios. Adem\u00e1s, cabe destacar que el total de accesos a todos los art\u00edculos disponibles rebasa los 500 millones de visitas., siendo en marzo cuando se registr\u00f3 el mayor numero de visitas a estos art\u00edculos, cuando la OMS clasific\u00f3 al COVID-19 como pandemia. Por su parte, el Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General de la OMS, explic\u00f3 que: \u201cEs fundamental que todas las personas tengan la posibilidad de consultar fuentes fiables sobre salud p\u00fablica para mantenerse informadas y protegerse contra la pandemia de COVID-19. Gracias a nuestra nueva colaboraci\u00f3n con la Fundaci\u00f3n Wikimedia, aumentaremos el acceso a informaci\u00f3n sanitaria fiable de la OMS en numerosos pa\u00edses, idiomas y dispositivos\u201d. La OMS ha realizado diversas acciones y colaboraciones con gobiernos nacionales para prevenir la infodemia sobre COVID-19. Por otro lado, la directora ejecutiva de la Fundaci\u00f3n Wikimedia, Katherine Maher resalt\u00f3 lo importante que es para la poblaci\u00f3n contar con informaci\u00f3n confiable en estos tiempos: \u201cel acceso a la informaci\u00f3n es fundamental para la salud de las personas y debe tratarse como tal. Este principio adquiere mayor relevancia durante las crisis sanitarias mundiales, porque dicho acceso puede ser una cuesti\u00f3n de vida o muerte.
