Giancarlo Summa, director of the United Nations Information Centre for Mexico, accompanied the undersecretary of Health Prevention and Promotion Hugo L\u00f3pez-Gatell and Jenaro Villamil, holder of the Mexican State Public Broadcasting System (SPR), to present the Verified initiative at the evening conference on coronavirus.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The United Nations Verified<\/em> initiative is an effort to combat false information in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, which will be promoted through the SPR.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

This phenomenon, known as the infodemic, may refer to excess information on a specific topic, which can lead to the generation of fake or context-drawn news. \"The United Nations launched the global Verified campaign in May to contribute to the fight against this infodemic of false information,\" Summa recalled at the conference.<\/p>

\"There are two types of false information circulating on social media or in media, uninformed information (sic.), which affirm things that are not true out of ignorance, but there are also well-organized campaigns that redistribute obviously false messages, we have seen it in several countries, for example against the use of masks or measures of social distancing, or distrust of science and scientists, something that we are very concerned about because the fight against the pandemic becomes more complicated,\" explained the director in Mexico of the United Nations Information Centre.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

He also explained that such initiatives are necessary, especially for what is to come, he points out that action should be taken but will become more complicated for example when vaccines are available and there is misinformation to false information around it.<\/p>

That is why the UN launched this campaign at the global level, adapting to the contexts of each country. Summa quoted Luis Angel Hurtado of UNAM and his study in which he indicates that Mexico is one of the countries where the greatest amount of fake news circulates on social networks.<\/p>

Summa appreciated the support of the SPR and https:\/\/infodemia.mx\/<\/a> that denies fake news and promotes the verification of sources especially in health and the support of different media outlets that have joined the Verified initiative. Verified.<\/em><\/p>

Giancarlo Summa, director del Centro de Informaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas para M\u00e9xico, acompa\u00f1\u00f3 en la conferencia vespertina sobre coronavirus al subsecretario de Prevenci\u00f3n y Promoci\u00f3n de la Salud, Hugo L\u00f3pez-Gatell, y a Jenaro Villamil, titular del Sistema P\u00fablico de Radiodifusi\u00f3n del Estado Mexicano (SPR), para presentar la iniciativa Verified. La iniciativa Verified de la Organizaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), es un esfuerzo para el combate a la informaci\u00f3n falsa en relaci\u00f3n a la pandemia de COVID-19, la cual ser\u00e1 promovida a trav\u00e9s del SPR. Este fen\u00f3meno conocido como infodemia, se puede referir al exceso de informaci\u00f3n sobre un tema en espec\u00edfico, lo que puede llegar a ocasionar la generaci\u00f3n de noticias falsas o sacadas de contexto. \u201cNaciones Unidas ha lanzado la campa\u00f1a global Verified, en mayo, para contribuir al combate contra esta infodemia de informaciones falsas\u201d, record\u00f3 Summa en la conferencia. \u201cHay dos tipos de informaciones falsas que circulan en redes sociales o en medios de comunicaci\u00f3n,  informaciones desinformadas(sic.), que afirman cosas que no son ciertas por ignorancia, pero hay tambi\u00e9n campa\u00f1as bien organizadas que redistribuyen mensajes evidentemente falso, lo hemos visto en varios pa\u00edses, por ejemplo contra el uso de las mascarillas o las medidas de distanciamiento social, o de desconfianza con relaci\u00f3n a la ciencia y a los cient\u00edficos, algo que nos preocupa mucho porque vuelve m\u00e1s complicado el combate a la pandemia\u201d, explic\u00f3 el director en M\u00e9xico del Centro de Informaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas. Tambi\u00e9n explic\u00f3 que este tipo de iniciativas son necesarias, especialmente para lo que viene, apunta que se deben tomar medidas sino se har\u00e1 m\u00e1s complicado por ejemplo cuando est\u00e9n disponibles las vacunas y exista desinformaci\u00f3n a informaci\u00f3n falsa alrededor de ello. Es por ello que la ONU lanz\u00f3 esta campa\u00f1a a nivel global, adecu\u00e1ndose a los contextos de cada pa\u00eds.
