Chile's National Health Fund reached agreement with telemedicine platform

The rise of telemedicine during the last year due to the pandemic, led the National Health Fund (Fonasa) to seek digital transformation and sign an agreement with Teledoc, a telemedicine platform.

The National Health Fund (Fonasa) is a health insurance program created by the Chilean government in the late 1970s. It is the responsible institution for the collection, administration and distribution of resources destined to health in Chile.

After months of analysis within the Fonasa structure, this month the telemedicine company Teledoc was certified as the official provider of this service in the Fonasa system. This will facilitate virtual consultations to all its beneficiaries.

The new Fonasa technical standard requires the provider to keep the medical record of the care in the same way as it would be done in a face-to-face consultation. And the digital tools will allow doctor-patient interaction in real time, respecting the user's privacy.

"One of our fundamental pillars since the company was born is to bring medicine closer to where people are, generating a safe, transversal access at fair prices for the whole community. Today we can serve all of Chile with the Fonasa system, from general medicine to the various specialties," explained Claudia Arpón, CEO of Teledoc.

Through the Teledoc platform, they have carried out more than 70 thousand consultations, so they hope that with the addition of patients this number will increase, and telemedicine will be able to advance even more in Chile.

Currently the main specialties available are: psychology, nutrition, geriatrics, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, pediatrics, psychiatry and diabetology.
