European Union recognized telemedicine project in Panama

The telemedicine project that currently works in 13 health regions of Panama, has been recognized by the European Union (EU), which seeks to collaborate to replicate a similar program in Brazil.

In September, the Ministry of Health of Panama was invited to the event "Telemedicine for social inclusion in the COVID-19 era", organized by the government of the municipality of Bom Jardim, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and by the Italian-Latin American Organization (IILA ).

said event It consisted of the presentation of a project in the Brazilian municipality that would last five months, from September 2021 to February 2022. In this sense, health authorities from Panama were invited to the event to share their experiences on their telemedicine program.

The triangular cooperation project included a two-week seminar on telemedicine and health technologies from Brazil, a visit to Rome and finally a visit by Bom Jardim officials to Panama this February.

On this occasion, Luis Garrido, representative of the Ministry of Health of Panama, explained that "The Panamanian experience will be transmitted and replicated internationally." As mentioned in a virtual meeting with Brazilian authorities and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

On the other hand, the EU, through the European Commission, has generated various economic and technical cooperation strategies in Brazil, a model that the Panamanian Ministry of Health would seek to replicate in Panama.
