Human Resources in health and skills for the new work paradigm

Specialist of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), gave the keynote speech "Human Resources in Health 4.0: New skills for the new work paradigm", at the RECAINSA Digital Health Forum.

Dr. Francisco García Gutiérrez, Regional Advisor on Human Resources for Health Development at PAHO, participated in the 2021 Digital Health Forum, where he spoke about the new digital determinants of health in relation to human resources in health.

Regarding the necessary skills for the new paradigm of the work of health professionals, the specialist initially highlighted the work carried out by medical personnel in remote or isolated communities and the use of tools such as telemedicine. He also exposed the importance of digital health education mainly to medical professionals, but also to children and adolescents.

Given the new paradigms and new skills, the pandemic has left the door open for the development of digital health, "we must take advantage of the next two years to develop everything we can in a small way because perhaps the opportunity that has been opened to close”.

In his talk, Dr. García Gutiérrez cited documents related to the adoption of information systems and Digital Health technologies, such as the WHO Global Digital Health Strategy 2020-2025, Hello Commission of The Lancet and Financial Times  on governing the future of health 2030: growing up in a digital world.

These documents “show what we can do, where we can go, the skills that need to be worked on so that professionals at all levels can advance in matters related to Digital Health”, explained the specialist.

Regarding the document by The Lancet and the Financial Times, he highlighted the importance of knowing which are the actions on which efforts should be concentrated around the digital world. The Commission provides a series of facilitating factors aimed at making digital accessibility a fundamental right.
