Ministry of Health in Peru enabled new teleconsultations in 72 health establishments

The Directorate of Integrated Health Networks (Diris) Lima Centro, and the Ministry of Health (Minsa) implemented 72 teleconsultations to offer telemedicine services to the population of the region.

The Diris Lima Centro, has completed the implementation of 72 teleconsultations in different health establishments of first level of care, for the provision of remote medicine services. The offices have adequate computer equipment and furniture to provide this type of care.

“We are the first Diris, at a national level, that incorporates practically all of its health establishments into the telemedicine system. This will improve the quality of care, and that the doctors of our first level health establishments can access interconsultations to see certain cases”, explained the general director of Diris Lima Centro, Jesús Bonilla. In addition, he added that telemedicine services will save time within the hospital and for patients, in addition to improving the quality of services.

The teleconsultations of 72 establishments that will be equipped with webcams, computer equipment, multifunctional printers, speakers, microphones and more, will benefit more than 2.7 million people in the Lima Centro jurisdiction.

On the other hand, the health authorities reported that the Ascarrunz Alto, Sagrada Familia, Mariscal Cáceres, Jardín Rosa de Santa María, Santa Rosa and Centro San Luis health posts will be added to the National Telehealth Network (RNT), and in They will soon begin to offer remote health services. Currently the RNT is made up of 2,658 health establishments.

“It is important that Diris Lima Centro incorporates all its health establishments. For us, this is a big step that allows us to interconnect the user and our health professionals. Telemedicine is here to stay, and in times of pandemic it has helped a lot”, highlighted Dr. Bernadette Cotrina, general director of Telehealth, Reference and Emergencies of the Minsa. In addition, he added that the Minsa will continue with the tasks and actions to strengthen the first level of health care.

Finally, Dr. Cotrina explained that the implementation of telemedicine services in Peru has increased its use since the beginning of the pandemic, since prior to the health emergency approximately 250 people were treated, while now they have registered averages of 31 thousand people daily.
