Chilean National Health Fund will continue remote care despite the end of the State of Exception

Telemedicine played a leading role in the services of the National Health Fund (Fonasa) in Chile during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Health Fund (Fonasa) announced that the remote consultation and telemedicine services will continue to function despite the fact that on September 30 the Constitutional State for Catastrophe in force since March of last year due to the pandemic came to an end.

Fonasa announced that said term will not affect the delivery modalities of remote care, which was extended by the health alert until the end of 2021. In this way, patients who continue to require remote care in its different formats will be able to receive it as it is. as they did during the health emergency by their Fonasa service providers.

Fonasa implemented the remote care modality with the aim of facilitating the continuity of medical care, especially for those patients undergoing medical treatment. More than 46 types of remote services are available through Fonasa.

Fonasa even created a new code to grant remote care by teleconsultation or telerehabilitation in 2021. Which “allows this modality not to depend on the continuity of the health alert to remain in time. It means that, with the adoption of the new codes, providers will be able to continue offering the telematic care modality, definitively installing a new way of attending, which will expand access, coverage and scope of the care they offer,” he explained. the phonase.

These codes also promote the accreditation of technological platforms so that providers can incorporate them into their catalog of services.
