FES Zaragoza UNAM presents mental telehealth manual

Academics from the Zaragoza Faculty of Higher Studies of the National Autonomous University of Mexico presented the document Telesalud Mental Manual.

Mental Telehealth Manual, is a work that began its development months before the start of the pandemic in 2020. It is a work that involved 25 specialists from six countries.

Specialists from the International University of Valencia were part of the presentation of this document, who highlighted the importance of research for the development of instruments such as the manual.

The manual was the product of joint work between mental health professionals, and offers tools for the development of telehealth, ideal for the training of mental health professionals with an emphasis on remote clinical practice, according to Dr. Bertha Ramos del Río. , one of the professionals who participated in the drafting of the Mental Telehealth Manual.

On the other hand, Dr. Paulo Daniel Acero, Colombian psychologist, specialist in ethics and deontology, participated in the drafting of chapter 2 of the manual, which precisely addresses issues of ethics in the practice of mental health, specifically telepsychology.

The specialist celebrates the creation of this type of tools that address ethical aspects and, above all, that they are applied to new digital tools such as telepsychology.

In this way, the manual not only raises issues around clinical practice and telepsychology, but also issues about the relationship between human beings and technology, as explained by Dr. Juan José Martí Noguera, coordinator of the manual. In this sense, the manual also explains the importance of psychology in this relationship with technology.

“When psychology works online, we need to manage the environment in compliance with derogatory ethics and to know what scientific evidence there is to deal with an issue or indicate to the person that it would not be possible to deal with that issue,” concluded Martí Noguera.
