PAHO Virtual Campus will strengthen the development of its teachers in virtual education

The Virtual Campus of Public Health of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), presented an initiative for the strengthening of teachers, with the aim of improving the design and management of virtual courses.

On November 16, this initiative was presented at an event organized in collaboration with the Instituto Universitario Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, in Argentina. The initiative proposes to develop the capacity of teachers in virtual education.

In addition, they will also seek the creation and production of open access educational materials for public health teachers, not only within the Virtual Campus but in any educational institution related to health.

"PAHO's commitment is to strengthen the Virtual Campus to bring new knowledge, guidelines, regulations, and PAHO standards to health workers in the Region," explained Ames Fitzgerald, director of the PAHO Systems and Services Department. PAHO Health. Fitzgerald also explained that it is necessary to have trained teachers to develop adequate courses and bring new knowledge to health workers.

The materials will focus on the following topics:

  • Coordination of virtual courses
  • Virtual course tutoring
  • Evaluation and feedback of learning in virtual proposals
  • Design and development of activities on virtual platforms
  • Preparation of virtual course programs
  • Coordination of virtual synchronous meetings
  • Institutional management of self-learning courses

On the other hand, the event also functioned to present one of the most recent PAHO publications “Educational Approach of the Virtual Campus for Public Health. “This publication seeks to guide the different PAHO officials responsible for managing projects in the Virtual Campus and the governments, ministries, institutions, and organizations that are part of the country nodes, about the guiding educational approach of the Virtual Campus. of PAHO,” said Gabriel Listovsky, Coordinator of PAHO's Virtual Campus.
