37 new medical establishments join the National Telehealth Network of Peru

With this addition, there are already 2,701 health establishments incorporated into the National Telehealth Network (RNT) of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) of Peru.

The RNT now has 37 new health facilities, the new additions belong to the Solidarity Metropolitan System (Sisol). The purpose of this action is to standardize the provision of telemedicine services and provide care for COVID-19 infections.

Augusto Tarazona, Deputy Minister of Health Benefits and Insurance, highlighted the scope of telemedicine in the country's health system: “Telemedicine is important because we are offering the population another means that allows them to access health services. The strategy of the Ministry of Health is to meet citizens, and we see it with vaccines, molecular tests and now, through telemedicine," he explained.

In this sense, given the panorama of the health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tarazona explained that the addition of these new Sisol establishments to the RNT, the population will be able to access more telemedicine tools, important during these times of pandemic.

The Telemedicine Directorate of the General Directorate of Telehealth, References and Emergencies (Digtel), is the body in charge of the RNT, which also provides the necessary technical assistance so that hospitals and medical centers recently added to the network, implement in a way effective telemedicine services, following the established standards.

Bernardette Cotrinam, director of Digtel, explained what the implementation process will be like: “In the first stage, joint tele-training will be carried out for both Minsa and Sisol professionals for the management of COVID-19. In addition, users of Metropolitan Lima and regions will receive educational information for the community with the strategy of going to meet the citizen to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Subsequently, for the second stage, the RNT contemplates an agreement to make the provision of medical specialist services easier: "We want to grow as a National Telehealth Network, continue to welcome all institutions, regardless of the type of provider, and with this have a wide range of specialist professionals that the user can consult”, he concluded.

Of the 37 new establishments connected to the RNT, 30 belong to Lima, two to Cusco, the rest in the regions of ICA, Tumbes, Piura, San Martín and Tacna.
