MIDO Integral

CURRENT SITUATION

The world is experiencing an unprecedented syndemic characterized by three events that have an impact on the provision of health services:

  1. On the one hand, the increase in the prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes, long-term diseases that, without proper care, derive in complications such as chronic renal failure, diabetic foot and blindness, among others.
  2. On the other hand, the increase in the incidence of infectious diseases and vector-borne diseases. Specifically, diseases such as influenza, dengue and now COVID-19 represent a challenge for the health system because they require rapid preventive actions, accurate diagnosis and timely care.
  3. Finally, inequalities in access to quality health servicesmake it necessary to recognize and incorporate the social and individual context of each person in the provision of health services.

MIDO Integral Ecosystem

With the objective of establishing preventive interventions and timely and quality care for the whole population along their life line, Carlos Slim Foundation has created the MIDO Integral Ecosystem, which reflects 12 years of experience in digital health.

MIDO Integral allows the follow-up of a person throughout their lifetime, from pregnancy, early childhood, school age, adolescence and even adulthood, with an ecosystem that enables personalized public health:

Proactive

Proactivewhere, through MIDO Integral health workers look for the patient in the community and in the most popular places such as public squares, bus stations, markets, among others, to assess for the first time their health status, recognizing their family history of chronic diseases, assessing their current habits, and measuring their weight, height, waist circumference, blood pressure and glucose.

Personalized

Personalizedwhere the information from that initial assessment is introduced into an algorithm within MIDO Integral, to obtain a health profile that stratifies their risk.

Preventive

Preventivewhere, according to a personalized risk profile a specific individualized intervention is prescribed to address in a timely manner the risk conditions of the person, always considering their current condition, and their personal and social context.

Predictive

Predictive, which takes full advantage of Artificial Intelligence to design a model that predicts the risks and the evolution of a patient's health status, considering their health status, habits and context. Based on this prediction, adjustments can be made to the preventive intervention.

Participatory

Participatory, in which MIDO Comprehensive is linked to the Mi Salud Integral mobile app, which enables people to become actively involved in taking care of their health. Through the app, the person accesses information on their current condition, receives diet and physical activity recommendations, and keeps a daily record of their emotions and their adherence to a healthy lifestyle.

Permanent

Permanentwhere, through MIDO Integral, the health status of the individual is monitored throughout the ongoing care, at the different levels of care, from the community to the hospital setting, and over time.

Ecosistema MIDO Integral is composed of the following:

Initial MIDO assessments in the lifeline:

In Pregnancy: MIDO Pregnancy guides health personnel in maternal careh trough an expert syste, from the preconception consultation, during pregnancy, delivery and puerperium.

From 0 to 4 years old: MIDO Early Childhood which uses intelligent algorithms to measure and monitor growth and development, assessing nutritional status, anemia and early detection of neurodevelopmental problems.

From 5 to 19 years: MIDO School for the timely detection of risk factors and nutritional disorders in girls, boys and adolescents.

20 years and older:

MIDO Chronic Diseases, for the timely detection of diabetes, hypertension and obesity, as well as their preconditions.

MIDO COVID, for the integrated assessment of chronic diseases and the presence of antibodies.

MIDO Cancer Risk*, which uses intelligent algorithms to detect the risk of developing breast, cervical, ovarian, prostate and colorectal cancer.

Lifeline Vaccination Tracking

Linked to the Electronic Vaccination Card, MIDO Integral allows the tracking of a person's vaccination actions along the lifeline, from pregnancy, early childhood, school age and adults.

Health Status Tracking

MIDO Integral allows multidisciplinary care, which facilitates follow-up by different health professionals. The following services are available:

  • MIDO Consultation, which allows medical staff to provide a quality consultation, in accordance with existing norms and regulations.
  • Nutrition Consultation*, to monitor the nutritional health of the patient.
  • Mental Health Consultation*, with questionnaires that facilitate the diagnosis of conditions and the monitoring of their evolution.

Solid analytical platform

The Integral MIDO Ecosystem has a robust analytical platform that allows for the effective management and operation of health services, composed of the following:

  • Integral MIDO Dashboard, which provides detailed insight into the quality-of-service delivery and its impact on people.
  • Quality of Care Indexes, which, based on algorithms developed through robust statistical and mathematical methodologies, rate the performance of health units in the provision of different services:
    • Diabetes Care Quality Index (ICAD).
    • Quality of Care Index for Hypertension (ICAHi)
    • Quality Index of Maternal Care (ICAM)
    • Quality Index of Vaccination Actions (ICAVac)
  • Development of predictive models, integrating provider information, self-reported information, and information from open databases, to estimate predictive risk models that support evidence-based decision making.

Linking with the person

MIDO Integral enables seamless interaction and communication between service providers and the individual, through three interlinked innovations:

  • Mi Salud Integral App, through which the patient accesses information on current condition, receives diet and physical activity recommendations, keeps a daily record of their emotions and their adherence to a healthy lifestyle. It is available for cell phones with Android, iOS and HarmonyOS operating systems.
  • Multi-channel chatbot, in which people can access timely information on various health topics, and take a MIDO to know their health status. It is available for Messenger, WhatsApp and on different web portals.
  • CLIKISalud, the most important educational health communication portal in the Spanish language, provides reliable and accurate information on the most relevant health topics.
  • Online coursesthrough the Aprendeplatform, directed to the general population so that they can learn more about their health status, learn how to lead a healthy lifestyle and prevent risks.

Strengthening the competencies of health care personnel.

Finally, in order to ensure that health personnel have the appropriate competencies to provide quality health services with a human touch, there are two innovations:

  • Institute of Higher Education in Health, an online center of excellence for the continuous training of first contact health personnel, through courses, diplomas, postgraduate degrees and specialties in health.
  • Digital Health Portfolio, a compendium of tools, clinical practice guidelines and scientific evidence on the most relevant public health topics.
