University in Ecuador presents a number of initiatives in the fight against COVID-19

The Private Technical University of Loja (UTPL) created the Temporary Committee for Institutional Articulation of Health Emergency, with the aim of combating COVID-19 through concrete actions.

Since the State of Emergency Decree in Ecuador, the UTPL created the temporary committee, in search of opportunities for collaboration between the institution and the implementation of activities for the prevention of contagions.

This committee is composed of university authorities, and they are organized through the Institutional Emergency Operations Committee for the creation and implementation of strategies, involving teachers, administrative staff, students and governing bodies.

The committee has presented and implemented more than 50 initiatives focused on contagion prevention, risk mitigation and distance education. Among them the launch of its platform https://covid19.utpl.edu.ec/ focus exclusively on COVID-19 in which it shows the actions carried out by the UTPL, as well as educational resources of entrepreneurship and research.

According to UTPL data, more than 361,000 people have benefited from the projects implemented. Among the most important and related to Digital Health is the COVID-19 data website in Loja province, the telemedicine project at the UTPL hospital, and Ecuador Makers a network of medical solutions. In addition, they have offered 71 online seminars on prevention, care and resilience to COVID-19.

All projects have been developed to the more than a 1,908 teachers who supported in teaching primary to university classes nationally thanks to trainings given by the Laboratory of Innovation and Teaching Research, the 907 volunteers, and the authorities of the university.
