Sponsored by an insurance company, doctors offer free remote consultation services

A well-known Spanish insurance company launched its Digital Health platform: Savia.

Since mid-March, more than 200 health professionals offer their services free of charge through remote online consultations.

The platform gives various options for receiving the medical care or advice they require, either through chat or video call on a service that is available 24 hours a day.

Savia was released commercially in February 2019 and have made more than 120,000 queries, however, after the COVID-19 outbreak the company decided to offer its platform for free, the only requirement is to register from a browser or from the application.

In addition, after the health emergency, more than 50 professionals from different specialties have joined as volunteers, offering everything from general medical consultations, to psychotherapy consultations. Even in Spain it is possible to receive a medical prescription.

According to data from the insurance company each day, about 2,000 people are served for remote inquiries. The COVID-19 emergency has increased the number of consultations by easing the weight of clinics, hospitals and health professionals.

After the pandemic, digital health and telehealth services will become more important, as initiatives like this are important to recognize that telemedicine can be used as a conventional tool in health services.
