A British digital health start-up company seeks to use Artificial Intelligence for the creation of personalized music playlists that soothe patients' anxiety or pain.

British start-up MediMusic, has created a music streaming app called MediBeat, which sets out to create playlists that reduce patients' anxiety and pain through relaxing music.

Clinical trials were run at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and found that use of the app showed a 22% reduction in Smart heart rate in patients with dementia.

Dr. Jacqueline Twamley, director of research and academic innovation at the Centre for Health Research and Innovation at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, explained the following about the results of the clinical trials, "The results have been very impressive. We believe that dispensing music as medicine could revolutionise the treatment of dementia and other similar neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s."

Dr. Twamley, was enthusiastic about the initial results, and explained that they are now looking at how it can help relieve other conditions such as anxiety and stress in doctors and nurses who are on the front line of caring for COVID patients.

Gary Jones, CEO and co-founder of MediMusic, explained that his company developed algorithms that generate playlists of up to 400 music tracks, which are specifically designed to have a measurable effect on patients.
